Tenovofir and pregnancy

Is it safe to take tenovofir during all the months of pregnancy? or Is it possible to stop during 1st and 2nd trimester to avoid any damage to the fetus and restart on 3rd trimester to prevent the transmission? What is the best strategy to manage the treatment during pregnancy without having any exposure to the development of unborn baby.. Can anyone share the experiece?

Patients should be told the truth about what they take. And interferon is the best option if you have no liver damage.

Access to better more affective therapies we dont have yet.  But you can read about on this forum. Everybody is hopeful that within five years they will roll out medications that will treat and cure hbv.

They have all know how today - but we still need to wait till big pharma ceo's make a little more   money from all the research they say they did on developing these nucs for hiv market.

ps. Also please post your lab results so we can advice if you need to be on treatment.

We all just need to hang on for 4-5 years  or hope for a conscience awakening from CEOs of big pharma companies. And medical directors of research institutions. That will just try using the these new therapies today  without hiding behind regulations.

Is it safe to drink alcohol and do drugs or being exposed to chemicals when pregnant?

The answer is NO. Tenofovir is a chemotherapy my dear friend. Those of us that took these nucs had all hair stop growing. It was not falling out  it is just stopped growing. On arms and chest. And there was no need to take a haircut.

So of course these drugs are toxic to the fetus. Keep in mind antiviral chemotherapy for HiV and HBV was first developed for cancer treatment to slow down cell growth thus stopping the spread of cancer.

Which is why they became the choice for hiv treatment. They wanted to slow down the virus. And you do this by slowing down cell growth.

Virus wants to survive at all costs. Immune system kills with the infected cell it makes a copy of it self and infects another cell. The faster the immune attack the  faster the viral replication. During acute HBV infection for example. At some point the immune system of the individual wins this process and for some people the virus will establish chronic replication.

So what the drug companies do is they give us drugs that slow down cellular growth. The cell lives longer and the virus in it. Thus it does need to make copies of itself. Thus in most cases with antivirals the viral load goes to zero within 6 months that can be detected in blood.

So this is essentially what you will be taking.  I would not advice anyone if they are pregnant to take these drugs. I also would not advice anyone to get pregnant if you have hbv. Treat it or try to treat it first with interferon and then get pregnant.

But if you are in the process already I would.not take tenofovir or any other antiviral. These are really strong drugs. That no one has any clue about their long term safety.

I had doctors off the record tell me that it us criminal to prescribe these drugs to young patients with no liver damage .

These drugs should be used on people with advanced cirrhotic livers that cant take any other treatment.

But because HBV disease treatment is an industry more then anything now we have what we have today. Left and right they right prescriptions for tenofovir or entecavir without thinking.
