I am a HBV e-antigen -ve carrier. I just got my first Vit-d test results as follows,
Component Your Value Standard Range Units Flag
VITAMIN D,25-OH,TOTAL 18 30 - 100 ng/mL L
VITAMIN D,25-OH,D3 18 ng/mL
VITAMIN D,25-OH,D2 < 4.0 ng/mL
and here is the advice from my doctor (primary not GI)
"Please begin Vitamin D2 50,000 IU (International Units) once a week for 8 weeks, and then return to the lab for a repeat check one week after you finish these pills. I have sent a prescription to your preferred pharmacy and have placed an order for your follow-up test at the lab. After you reach a normal level of vitamin D, you will need to increase your maintenance dose by about 1000-1200 IU/day, which we can discuss after your next test. Please call my office if you have any questions".
Is this recommendation standard? How come he didn't mention taking D3 supplement?
pretty much the same
