blood donation...

good day to all..just want to ask if is ok i donate blood to hospitals..im a hep b positive 2 years ago but now i can say im already cleared..below were my latest lab results...


hbsAg w/titer (CMIA)    =               0.40 mIU/ml    (NON-REACTIVE)
hbsEg (CMIA)              =               0.25 mIU/ml    (NON-REACTIVE)
Anti-HBs (CMIA)          =                11.99 mIU/ml   (REACTIVE)  result obtained is low in titer
Anti-HBe (CMIA)           =               0.03 mIU/ml   (REACTIVE)
Anti-HBc Total (CMIA)    =             14.42 mIU/ml  (REACTIVE)
Anti-HBc IgM (CMIA)    =               0.76 mIU/ml    (NON-REACTIVE)

thanks step..so you suggest not making any blood donations? hoping i can donate...thanks very much...

This is an interesting question. I suspect the answer may vary. Since the discovery of occult hbv, that is HBsAg -ve but detectable hbvdna, blood donation services are more cautious if a donor is HBcAb positive, indicating a past hbv infection and therefore may potentially have occult hbv. The more advanced donation services will now screen donors using a nucleic acid test.

Since we know many people have been exposed and recovered from HBV, a blanket rejection of everyone with positive HBcAb will significantly reduce the donor pool.
