curious

I found out I was  chronic Hep B 4 years ago..Went bananas and had the family checked...All negative for Hep b..Thank god..Im E antigen neg with a Viral load of 500 as we speak..VL was 1500 4 years ago..No treatment ever..I found to probably have gotten this from my mom 45 years ago..How is it that this disease is so dam contagious that my wife whom I had sex with up to 3 times a week for 23 years never contracted the disease..Never vaccinated til 4 years ago..Is there any explanation to this?? What does less contagious actually mean??? Help me understand this...thankyou

By your post I think stefanos answer is best suited, maybe you are an inactive carrier so was less capable of spreading the virus. For the blood transfussion part, its just amazing, what I know is that they dont do a full panel (atleast where I am from, they are mostly interested in surface antigen, HBV DNA and donors word or knowledge).

Well im just going by the fact she donated blood for the last 20 years..And from what ive seen you cant donate blood if youve had a past or present infection...That leads me to believe she never got the infection..She had her 3 rounds of vaccine went back to the doc and he said all was good she was protected..Would they have sent her to be vaccinated if she was already immune to the disease???   Does e neg really mean nothing if you are chronic?? From what ive read e neg chronic usually means mutant strain but also means high dna and lousey alt's and ast's...Which since ive found out I was chronic have been low (dna v/l) 500-1000 and norm ast and alt's..

Which tests did they undergo? If surface only then subject her to a full panel, it might help answer your questions. She might have got it and cleared it when you were with her or she may have contracted it in the past and cleared it before you even met therefore she is immune.

Is there any explanation to this??

--If she is immune, your HBV could not infect her.
