I just returned from the e.r., had them check out my liver that's been painful for couple days now. Turns out labs are normal, ultrasound for gallstones are negative and they write up a script for acid reflux.   WHAT should they be looking/testing for???  I asked if they screened for cancer, doc says no. So please tell me what they should already know for I see my regular doc next week.

Hi

My sister, a chronic Hep B carrier, has this side effect when she started Entecavir treatment about 9 months ago.  She waked up in 3.00 am each night feeling heart burning and unable to sleep.  She took the drug at 4.00 pm daily.  I advised her taking a cup of warm milk before sleep.  Then he said side symptom disappeared.  She is still under Entecavir treatment.  Her way treating the said side effect may not work globally.  Each patient may have different reaction.

She is still under Entecavir treatment.  Now she is taking soya milk because later I found cow milk may contain food for cancer cells.  Therefore I advise her making this change.  She doesn't have cancer.  We never know when it'll come.  We must take precaution preventing it start developing.  All you need is taking natural foods, without chemically processed.

You can find plenty of documentation on Internet re Acid Reflux.  Following is only one example;

If you like reading on your own, http://www.merck.com/mmpe/index.html is an excellent place to start (it is, at least for me) for general info about many medical issues.

If the pain that you feel is not something that needs ER attention, I would recommend that you use the acid reflux meds they gave you. If that works, you'll know if they were right on this. Otherwise, if they are good doctors, they will listen to you when you tell them that it did not work, and it will help them discard that hypothesis. I'm suppose all this has occurred to you already, but I write all this just in case...

and after all if it was the acid reflux there are plently of tests to confirm it but these tests must be done, it is too easy and cheap to just say it is reflux not doing the tests to confirm it

i guess most of the doctors just make a guess and give it a try but do not make tests because expensive.....but we do pay for the visit don't we?

all us cronic hbv carriers have experienced mild pain along liver borders, that's just liver pressure on other organs and it is not related with any bood test

you might find usefull fibroscan (once a year) and ultrasound (every 6 months) but as a normal check.one is for liver fibrosis and the other for cancer

the pain can also be due to fat, slim people have more space for organs and less pressure.this pain is nothing to worry about and should go away without any tretament.if you are fat diet and excercise will help

Hi,

> they write up a script for acid reflux.....

Acid Reflux (GERD) is caused by Heartburn.  The symptom is a burning sensation radiating from stomach up to chest and throat.  There is nothing to do with Liver nor Hep.  I suppose it is the side effect of your treatment.  Please inform your regular doctor of the Acid Reflux.
