5 months post harvoni

my hubby is 5 months post tx harvoni, everything were ok, but we are bit worry about his new u/s which result is:

liver with patchy fatty changes tortous vessels at the anteromedial aspect of the liver maybe attributed to collateral vessel which may suggest portal venous hypertension.

Something new for us, after the tx, and its another hospital who did the u/s not like the old one we always used to go before. Hope anyone can give us some explanation before any doctor pls
thanks

Welcome to the forum. I question if the pathologist who read the ultra sound knows your husband was treated for hepatitis C.   I would wait for your doctors explanation who has all the information.  "Maybe" is a interesting
word in a pathologist report.  Never have seen this before.  Remember very few people have been treated for hepatitis C in the big picture.  Lots is unknown about the results of treatment and its effects.  This could make a difference in reading the results of your husband's ultra sound.  The liver will be changing after treatment.  It's not a bad change and "maybe" just that the pathologist doesn't understand the changes being made due to being free of Hepatitis  C.

Let us know the results and hope this helps

your platelets decreased while on treatment?  did you need transfusions?

No, they went to 80k within two months of starting treatment and have stayed there ever since.

I developed cirrhosis during treatment and also suffered a very significant loss of liver function within a few months of starting treatment.  It has never come back to normal.  platelets went form 140 k to 80 k.  just one example.

Enzymes never really changed much.

I highly recommend that your husband eat a non-inflammatory diet to combat any possible lingering liver inflammation that may have been caused by the drugs.  Make it an ongoing goal.

How did liver function fare, after treatment?

I took the interferon cocktail for a year and was declared Hep C free in 2000. The only way I got through the year of treatments was to hit the floor running each day and not stop; once I did sit or take a moment to rest, I was done.  I remember waking up crying in the middle of the night, I would hurt so bad. I knew exactly where every space between each joint was located, because the pain there was so extreme.  I assume that it was the cartiledge that I was feeling.  I am anything but a wimp, but by the end of the the xments, I understood how one might be inclined to suicide.  Anyway, the point of all this is that I have had some joint pain ever since, and the last few years it has gotten worse. I never thought to connect it to the treatments until recently, when I realized that I the discomfort is starting to feel very much like what I experienced back then, and is begining to spread throughout my whole body. I am developing crepitus in my neck and down my vertebrae as well as in my ankles. So I looked up long term effects of interferon and I found this site.  My question is this: does interferon damage the joint cushions, and if so, is there something I can do to slow or reverse the process? And to minimize the pain? Is there anyone studying long range effects that I should contact? Thank you for being here.
Eat non-inflammatory diet.  Super important.

DWBH has given an excellent answer.
I remember when I had a biopsy and they said "wisps of collagen suggest possible transitioning to cirrhosis"
I was graded a 2/4, my doctor said he felt I was a 3 but the pathologist would not change it

Try to see a hepatologist.
