thanks....for allaying my fears....it's when they give you the consent form and say there is a 1 in 15,000 chance of death ...I of course start freaking.....)......I do know he attends a lot of the conferences and has published papers of Hep c and liver ..so he seems good.  My only concern was he blew off my milk thistle idea...said if i wanted to toss money away it was up to me...takes a total western medical approach ..where I had been hoping for a more esoteric type of healing ......but secretly I guess I am not convinced herbs can really cure you...no matter how much artichoke tea I drink.  Course I am 52 and wonder if my liver is not so bad if it makes sense to go through treatment ..but i guess i must wait and see.  Thanks so much ...this board is the best

I like the sound of your doctor from McGill so far - get a biopsy and then be in a position to CHOOSE.  No rushing you into treatment on a Hep C diagnosis alone like far too many.  My first doc wanted to do that without a biopsy at all.

The biopsy is actually really easy.  The actual procedure is virtually painless and over quickly.  A good question that's been brought up on here is to ask how many liver biopsies the person doing yours has done before.  Just the same, you barely feel it when they pull out the tiny tiny liver sliver.  Very quick extraction.  Then you lie on your side for some hours, like 4 or more .. just in case there is bleeding.  So bring something to read or something.  I like to ponder life so I ended up not reading anything..just lying there passing time.  Like...how often do you get to just LIE there without having to feel guilty about it?  That's luxury to me. :)

Good luck with this.  Will be interested to know how it goes for you.  I was treated out of Toronto so interested how you'll fare in Montreal.

I wasn't the only one to be a baby about having a biopsy. My husband felt the same and I remember when we went to the hospital, it was like we were going to my funeral. We were holding hands before the procedure like it was our last goodbye.

Well, didn't we feel foolish afterwards!! It was the easiest thing. The only hassle was that after the lightning-quick procedure, I had to stay for observation and the time dragged. So take a book with you to pass the time.

We were eager to check out and  went to celebrate surviving an 'ordeal' that turned out to be easier than going to the dentist.

Good move to get the biopsy - I didn't know at the time that it's the gold standard.

Does your doctor attend the major liver conferences like the one last year in San Francisco?

thank you everybody.......I do have a Doctor from McGill...he seems to know what he is doing ...I told him I was afraid of the sx of treatment so he said ....."well let's see what state your liver is in with a biopsy and then we will be in a position of knoeledge to choose"......at first i was afraid of the biopsy...(as u can see I am a bit of a baby....) but after resding this board it seems the sane course to follow.   I have been all over the net and this place seems to be the best for me....thanks again to everybody

Not sure that you are going to find a Doc in Montreal this time of year.  Most of the people from Quebec are in South Florida right now. Lots of Souviens around here, all driving about 20 mph.

Rule of thumb seems to be the big teaching hospitals.  McGill University is there in Montreal - do they have a hospital associated with it?  Any of the large hospitals in Montreal that are teaching hospitals?  A place to start perhaps.

Haven't heard of anyone in Montreal but found this on the internet:

http://www.ratemds.com/filecache/doctor-ratings.jsp?did=869908&print=1

(Scroll down to see four reviews.)

Also see Agent's new thread recommending:

"Dr Jean Robert, at the Clinique du Nouveau Départ.
Amazing Doctor, he teaches also in France and he is totaly dedicated to thr cause "

Let us know if you find a good one - it's nice to know.

It looks like you’re striking out here; you might try to send a private message to Chiara 104; I believe she’s in Montreal, and might be able to help:

I haven’t heard from her in a while, but she might still be around.

Good luck to you—
