12 weeks to be considered SVR, new guidelines

Question

Went to my doctor today and she told me that new guidelines are about to be approved that would say you have achieved SVR if you are UND at 12 weeks post tx, instead of 6 months.  Anyone else hear this?

What does mental focus have to do with SVR ?  As long as you can focus well enough to read the word "undetectable" you're good to go !!!

The six months post UND for SVR is set by the FDA. Research driven by the pharm. co`s showed that SVR12 can be just as good to get quicker results on trial data. I have not heard the FDA changing their SVR24 standard so far.

I believe it is pretty common for there to be two viral load tests on a sample: A less sensitive quicker one followed by a more sensitive (presuming you are <43) confirmatory one which can quantify <43 and which takes about a week longer to become available....d

I have also heard that this may be the case. My Dr did not run any special test that I am aware of. The above articles state that you need a highly sensitive test. I do know that my tests are ran at Mayo, and my Dr told me that they only use the sensitive test there. Does anybody know about this? Or is the less than 43 und  still good enough?

The researchers concluded that assessment of serum HCV RNA 12 weeks after the end of treatment using a highly sensitive TMA assay "is as relevant as after 24 weeks to predict SVR and make decisions on the management of treated patients, suggesting a new definition for SVR."

This is great news to me if it is true.I was UND 3 weeks after stopping tx.Now my dr wants to see me after a blood test in 6 mos.This is a long time for me after what I went through.I will be watching this post and ask my dr about this.Maybe he is being over cautious.

I've heard rumors of the same thing. Apparently Gilead asserted in a recent investor or medical conference that 12 weeks is about to become the newly recognized standard for SVR. Hope it's true. Does anyone know where data can be found for relapse rates among those who attained SVR 4 and SVR 12 on the old SOC?

Hi there,

I found some articles that hold this true for HCV/HIV co-infected.  But since I am still struggling with mental focus, I am hoping someone else here can do some research and post a relevant link to 12 wks post SVR.  Very encouraging outcomes.
