Glad to here you're out of pain...hope you're other teeth hold up. I'm having some pain and tenderness in my front teeth. I didn't make it to the dentist today for my root canal....been feeling bad the last few days. I guess its a good thing I didn't go because the dentist is sick... that's all I need is to get sick with my hgb and white count so low.
Good luck to ya!
Darla
Actually , as usual just the shot hurt. And out of pain from what he did. Now have to figure out when and what to do with the tooth. A couple others are sensitive now, hoping NOT needing more work!!
LL
SLJ...hi there. Haven't been online past couple days much.
Yes. I tx at Shands, Albumin Interferon trial, drew SOC tho and done last week. Dr. Nelson is my doc.
Sorry to here tx hasn't worked for you, that you can try again. What is Rituxin?
Which route do you take to Gainesville? If it's 40 to 441 you go @ 2 miles by me :)
Be happy to meet you one of those days. Let me know your normal route, we can figure something out.
LL
I hope the dentist was kind to you while you were in the chair! I have to go tomorrow to have a root canal done....oh joy! It wouldn't be to bad if my neck and back didn't hurt so bad. Anytime I have dental work done I have to take 2000mg of amoxicillin...due to the pins and plate in my ankle...don't want any infection going there. So having a compromised immune system while on tx amoxicillin is a good idea!
wishing you the best....Darla
I see that you are going to Shands also. Who are you seeing and what treatment are you on? I see Dr. Triggs and Dr. Nelson regularly. (I have also seen several others.) I have relapsed from therapy 3 times and I am now taking Rituxin treatments for cryoglobulemia. This is only an attempt to rid my body of cryo.I cannot do anymore interferon for the Hep C, so I am looking into the Holistic approach, acupuncture and infrared therapy. My enzymes are finally in good shape but my VL is out of control with 38,100,000. Yes, that's million. The Doctors say not to worry about the VL, as long as the enzymes are good? My next treatment at Shands is 4/17&4/18. I stay overnight on the 17th. and see Triggs and Nelson, then on the 18th., I have my Rituxin treatment. I don't know where you are located, but if you are close to Shands, but maybe we could meet? I come over from New Smyrna Beach. If anyone else is from the Gainesville area, I would like to meet them also. Just keep me posted. I wish you a great day!

Cute pic!
Just saw this. No, it won't stop you from txing, but could make it all worse. Talk to your Dr. on that. It IS so expensive, isn't it!?
Try a teaching hospital for Hep tx (and dental!) in your area. Assistance programs there.
I see your 2b so 'only' 24 weeks tx and very good % of SVR. I just finished 24 weeks. you should get in and check out your liver damage, options, etc.
Good luck, LL
I have advanced periodontal disease and have been told I will probably need to have most of my teeth pulled eventually. I haven't had this done because of lack of $$ and no insurance. Will this keep me from being able to do tx for HCV? That is, if I could get the cash for either?
Started my last post, made tea....posted and there you 2 were!
I went in Monday, BTW, just been sick past few days (MONTHS:)
I had extensive eye exam and rechecks with opthamologist before/during tx. That was my biggest fear of tx! As I'd been to dentist a few mths. before tx, figured it'd be fine and never had the need to go in till this popped up.
I couldn't do antib.'s before the procedure as in serious pain, but he did what he could without 'blood', now I am on penicilln. I have MVP also, so always had to pre-med before dentist, tho he just showed me the latest protocol saying MVP doesn't need pre-meds now?? Him and tx Dr. said wait a few weeks to do procedures.

Hi all! A few days 'down'.
It was an abscess tooth (back) and $241.00 later....out of pain, temp. filling and can't save the tooth And only $3600.00 for the bridge (same procedure as/but cheaper than yours I guess, Pigeonca!)
I had been to the dentist @3-4 mths. before tx and nothing was wrong, cleaning, scaling, etc. and to go over bridge or implant for a tooth that I had a root canal in yrs. before. Luckily not in the ‘front row’ and have a few weeks to pull with the temp filling.
I am an 'anal' hygiene person (those 2 words just don't go together do they?:) and even on worst tx days would get up to brush teeth. Never had much trouble with my teeth. Now I have several sensitive, getting all checked next app. While not the worst part of tx, funny how it's hitting as soon as I stop the drugs and does suck, especially for the wallet! Two 'pains' in one!
dmhrdh...yep! About lost it with the xray piece in my mouth! Took all I had in mind over matter not to! Nausea's is not a time for mouth wide open, drilling, etc.
moa...yes I did tell them, think they are glad we do as how many do they work on that don't even know? That's scary! Actually he impressed me as he wouldn't even prescribe antibiotics or do anything more without talking to Shands/tx Dr. For all the idiot Dr.’s out there, he admitted he knew little of Hep C tx and wanted clearance to proceed anymore.
forsee...and this was a tooth with a filling (already 'fixed' !) can't wait to see if anymore going down! I had no clue until this tremendous pain started in my jaw, kept getting worse. All the ones that are now sensitive just started past few weeks :(
(that'll move up your start date, huh?)
Thanks ALL .....out of pain for now :)
LL
yes, just tell them you need amoxicillin. Anytime you stir up bacteria, if your immune system is low, the amoxi will knock out what the dental work kicks up that gets into the blood stream. tell them you just finished chemo.
my dentist would not begin work until I checked with my hepatologist, unless your blood is way out of whack they will tell you to go ahead, but depending on the amount of work being done, you may be on the Amox for one to seven days. The dentist will play it safe if he knows you are immune compromised probably, if any infection is present.
make the call....we all want you smiling soon! MB
I have had to have several crowns redone, as far as I am concerned, due to treatment. You must take Amoxicillin, at least 2 hrs., prior to any work being done.I think it is given free at Publix Supermarkets, and of course your Dental staff should be informed. It is very important to keep up with your Dental and Optometrist, during treatment. I have had to have my lenses changed 3 times and I am ready to go back again. My eyesight has changed drastically during all the interferons. Also, I think that an electric toothbrush is almost vital, as it also helps in keeping the gums healthy. This was another huge expense~just rack it up to therapy.
SJL
gee, this is my nightmare...I had so much dental work done, had to work on every tooth in my mouth...it was very stressful, time consuming and very expensive...to think that when you do treatment more teeth can go, wow...guess if everything went right for me all the time I wouldn't even be on this board...lol....
When I was halfway thru treatment- I got severe absessses and tootheache(funny thing was---that I had all my dental work checked and done before treatment)
I had two double teeth pulled and had to take a heavy dose of antibiotics for a week directly after--It was all checked out and ok d by my gastro etc.
deep issues I guess-it couldnt wait
say a prayer for you
well wishes from Rob in ireland ;)
I'm a dental hygienist and made sure I started treatment in tip top shape dentally. Since I have been on treatment I broke a molar and had to have a root canal.
I would take a copy of my most recent CBC along with you.
Personally, I didn't have a problem.
The most difficult part was the chair time with some nausea tossed in...
Good luck!
if you need it done do it. Not keeping teeth clean breeds bacteria which further weaken your immune system and your HCV is enough without added help!!!
tell your dentist ! You put others at greater risk not to tell them.
have everything done before you start treatment if pssible. Keep up during tx.
dentist will prescribe antibiotic, at least one mega dose the day of procedure.
take the whole dose, the antibiotics may help or hurt your treatment, depending on what research you read, but certainly any ongoing infection will.
I had one bad tooth (not bad enough to even be painful yet) and once on Interferon is spread and infection throughut my jaw, lymphnodes in arm pits and knees etc...
so YES get your dental work done asap.
My wish is someone had told me to get everything done before treatment......
as in ASAP.
I had to have dental work done during tx, rather major work for that matter, with no dire consequences. It was an abscess, which cannot wait for later. They pulled the tooth and crowned the two adjacent teeth, giving me a permanent bridge. The only thing that hurt was my pocketbook, as it cost me a tad over five grand. Ouch!
I told all my medical people about my hcv, as well as my hairdresser and manicurist. If any of them had had a problem, I would have known to change to somebody else.
Do people tell their dentists they have Hep C? I need a new dentist, but am curious as to whether this could be an issue.
I had an infected Mole removed during tx and the surgeon kept saying WOW it is still bleeding after every stitch. LOL .
Bobby
Not to mention that most people on tx and right after have low platelets and you may bleed a lot if it is pulled.
Bobby
I had a cap replaced during tx. There are antibiotics you have to take before and after surgery if medically necessary during tx. The dentist has a list of the protocol.
Yes, cleanings and basic fillings are fine. No surgery. Try to save those molars. I had one pulled when I was young and broke and foolish. The following year my Dad died and left me a nice inheritance. The other molar on the other side eventually rotted out. I wish I had that molar back now. The top molars have nothing to bite down on.
I think I read somewhere that it's best to wait until treatment is over for major work however extra cleanings are good because the of the dry mouth from the meds.
