No one can answer your  question, but my guess is that the fewer sfx you had during tx, the fewer you will have post tx, but who knows. As to the PI thing, I'd take my chances with a PI anyday as opposed to twice the exposure to interferon. Interferon is what screws some people up IMO because it doesn't directly attack the virus, it monkeys with the entire immune system so not surprising to see so many immune-related problems post tx.

My thyroid went bad late in tx, it went hypo and has remained that way.  I take levothyroxine and will have to take it for the rest of my life.

I thought you mentioned in a previous post the PI's used on cancer patients weren't the same as those used for HCV?  Different properties.

Irregardless, they a compiling data at this point and I don't think PI's have been out for over 20 years.

Definitely not a rare occurance to burn out the thyroid, but I've known of many many who have not had any trouble.  I was told by my first doctor upfront that it's a possibility and decided it was worth the risk......and it was.  A tiny pill once a day forever is WAY better than my previous outlook.  Just make sure that if you are on tx, or will be....to have the doctor keep any eye on TSH levels.  Mine were a problem and my second doctor didn't keep a close check on it ~ I got very sick before my pharmacist actually "diagnosed" me.

It's not the first time that I read that someone "looses his thyroid" during tx. I wonder, what are the chances of that happening?

Thanks.

You're a guinea pig Rocker.  Nobody can predict nor is there enough data yet to establish what will happen long term with the PI's.  Inf & riba, around 2%  (if this is incorrect I'm sure someone will correct me) develop some type of long term problem.

Did 60 weeks tx back in 2003/2004.  I'm 5 years post tx and feeling great.  Lost my thyroid during tx, but a good exchange for a healthy liver :)

Never missed a day of work while txing and felt great w/all blood counts back to normal at one month post-tx. All my health problems manifested 1-4 years later, which is why I'm not sure they are even indirectly linked to tx.
