bad reaction to sun/soreness @back/bottom of head

hey all - just back from two weeks at Jersey Shore with another single mom and nine high school graduates! (plus my 14 and 11 yo girls)  Am I nuts or what??? I actually cried a few days cuz I just wanted to go home!  It's taken me hours to catch up on my MH reading - but I'm now up to date.  First of all I lathered up in waterbabies 45 (wearing this for 17 yrs and never a burn) but still stayed under umbrella and wore coverup - only time actually in sun is when swimming - which I would do for hours - I could live in the water! My rash went ballistic like Tom Cruise on Matt Lauer!  I spent rest of vaca out of sun (kids were calling me mom in a bubble) but went out every night for long walks and fun on boardwalk. (okay i took the tram car back one night cuz i just couldn't walk anymore)  My kids really saw difference in me - my shortness of breath; inability to go out in sunshine (i think just my luck - sensitive skin reaction); general lack of ooompfh!
Question: i started with a sore spot on back of my skull - no redness or swelling - it's lasted whole two weeks - and kind of spread to other side but still just tender and sore.  Anyone experience anything like this??   I am glad to be back home and back on forum.  I missed everyone here like crazy.
<3 Michelle

Michelle...
Well that movie won't be getting a dime from me either... that was definately tacky to say the least... I'm sure I could find a few better choice words for that... but I'll be nice, & just tell everyone I know not to go!

Sorry to hear about your reaction, sounds like you did everything you can to prevent it... this dang stuff is just so unpredictable, & everyone reacts differently... I never seem to get any (SKIN) reactions, but the HEAT itself, is not well tolerated... I get dizzy, feel stiffled, & I'll pass out.. prior to either of my TX's... I had never fainted before in my life... so there is something to that, & the effects of the sun.

Sounds like you were a trooper throughout all that... Welcome Home... I know You Are Glad To Be Back!
:)

Sandi.... would that bikini you refered to "down under" have sequin Froggies on it.... LoL...

I'd stay away from the OILS... but you could start off with a lower sunscreen & apply it more often.. & just keep a watch on yourself... make sure you don't get hives or something... make sure to reapply after swimming... I don't know how ya'll do the sun, & am dreading my cruise in Sep... I even tried to do a tanning bed last year... no reaction, or burns... I just can't take the heat... so I stay out of the kitchen.. Ha!

Anyway, just be careful because I know of several that have had bad reactions.. Some of you might remember Ringer in here from last year... Well, she went on Vacation, & burned so bad she wound up cutting her trip short... it was horrible, & she was so miserable.... So ya'll don't want to go thru that!

:)
P.S. Sandi... I am bruising like crazy too... just within the past 2 weeks... now this doc doesn't like to blame anything on TX... but I beg to differ.... he told me it was because as we get OLDER we loose fat in certain area's that makes our skin thinner.... That sounds like the biggest crock of B.S. that I have ever heard of... I've lost weight on TX already... but I have been down this road before & I'm not buying that "I'm Getting Old" theory... LoL... If That were true... heck I'd be bruising all the time instead of just occationally! Humph!

Staying out of the sun is tuff!  I now remember reading about that too.  We have a lake near us that we go to almost every weekend during the hot texas summer.  So, do you need shade or is super sunscreen enough?  I use bullfrog with spf 35.  Also, in reading the threads as a newbee, please help with the lingo.  I take it tx is treatments?

Good thread, as I am heading to the Outer Banks tomorrow for 5 days.  I will definitely lather up and take the umbrella and try to stay out of the sun. But I will be in the ocean too.  I usually don't burn but have stayed covered up good til now and sure don't want to get all puffy.

Had my post tx Dr. appt today, he will do a 6 mo pcr so the waiting game has started but that's okay. All the nurses in the clinic where applauding me and making a huge celebration and even my Dr. was all up (for a change)  Didn't know Drs. smiled. LOL.

Today is my birthday and can I just say it has been GREAT!

And here I thought I would see Bewitched while I am at the beach. NOT!!! I have joined this boycott.  We should write letters or something.  As Hook said "BAD FORM!"

Will check in next Thursday when I get back, Hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July.

In my search for figuring out when to start tx this was a big factor to me. I will be in HI for 2 weeks surfing and mountain biking so decided that right when I get back would be a good time. I know me well enough that staying out of sun would be heart breaking, sunscreen or no s/s. I read that people on tx need to stay out of sun!! That was my deciding factor.

michelle, you're right!!! can you imagin the havoc they would have had if instead of saying Hep c they said Aids? someone should call them on this...that's a very unfunny and pig headed joke...not to mention stupid...no wonder no one laughed...

michelle, i will be saying a prayer for you and do really hope all will be found well at the drs. i'm so sorry your feeling bad. it's very sad that your vacation was spoiled by all this...i was wondering if perhaps you did bruise your head though, do you remember anything that could have bruised it?

this tx is causing me to have bruises over the smallest of incidents...i hope that's all it is for you...i'm glad you're going to the dr....let us know...we're thinkin of you!

sandi you do have the funnies! but i could use them - i'm going to the doc's next week and will have this tenderness checked out.  I have a feeling this rash will be with me throughout tx - since i even had b4 dx!  mine must be a hep-c rash!

btw:  i saw "BEWITCHED" on vaca and there was a very tacky bad joke in the movie about hep-c.....guy hits on a beautiful blonde and "witch" puts spell on her so when she responds, she says "hi, I have hepatitis -C"  well, no one in the theatre laughed and my girls both grabbed my hand and said you ok mom? because I started to cry.  It made me feel dirty/bad/embarrassed/(but only for a few minutes) afterall, it was just a movie, but I have hep-c and don't think it is jokeworthy....anyway I'm boycotting the movie

DONT GO SEE BEWITCHED!!!!!!!

Glad your back home michelle, and sorry about the rash...mabey it was just a heat rash as opposed to a burn? or it could be a riba rash gone wild!!!

but, it seems like you had enough sun screen on to protect an Albino or even Michael Jackson...:O)

well, when i went to florida i got (((SUNBURN))) and then gained 13 lbs from edema because of it...or so my dr says. all though it really wasn't that bad of a sunburn or even a blistering sunburn...it was just a red/pink sunburn...this type usually doesn't bother me all that much except at night and then it turns to tan in a day or so....hummmm??? so strange i think...

so i was thinking it was from Asceties cause my stomach got puffed out too and it was painful. and i was getting a full feeling after eating just a tiny bit of food...plus i had a fevor with it...

i NEVER gain weight from sunburn...but the dr is still holding to the sunburn therory cause he doesn't think i have asceties... of course he has NOT done the ct scan to check either...

i am overweight so it's hard to tell...the "apple" shape figure, which by the way is the next "BIG FASHION CRAZE" coming up...i just know it!!! :O}

sooooooooo, i am going to FLORIDA IN A WEEK OR SO....YIPPY!!!  and i will NOT be getting sunburn, but i will get tan dog gone it! how will i accomplish that????  we shall see...

BUT, i will be wearing those blasted sunscreens...you must understand here, I HATE SUNSCREEN AND AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!

stupid i know...but i'd rather stay in the shade and wear a snow suit with a burka than put that stuff on.

BUT...I'M GOING TO BREAK DOWN AND USE IT THIS TIME...SO NO LECTURES NECESSARY. unless you insist!

(if i wasn't a "GOD" WORSHIPPER i'd no doubt be a sun worshiper! so i must behave in florida or i will be hurtin for certain)

HEY, FLORIDIANS WHAT "NUMBER" SUN SCREEN SHOULD I WEAR TO GET TAN BUT NOT BURN???  (i have a medium tone to my skin and i will be there for over a week)...

so Michelle, what is that spot on your head all about? i've never once heard anyone talk about that as a side effect...

are you sure it's not from pounding your head against the wall from being in so much pain from the rash?  you know, seriously though, we do bruise easy on this tx and perhaps you bumped your noggin and it's a Riba bruise over reacting!

but if your worried then go to the dr and get your head examined!!!  heeeeheee...no seriously...

what's my problem today??? i definately have the funnies...

Michelle, glad to have you back home, it's nice to be back from vacation...

luv,sandi

Chellski - you are a real glutton for punishment - I don't mean the sun - I mean all those high school grads plus your 11 and 14yo's.  Sounds like more work than fun.  The sun sensativity sounds like a difficult sx to have.  You were missed around here.   Glad you are back

Sun exposure on tx is risky at best. Be careful. When I had to mow the lawn on tx I could feel the sun's effect on my hands which were not covered. Our skin tends to dry out and we can easily get dehydrated even without the sun.Play it safe and cover up. frank(welcome back Michelle-glad you had some fun.)

Sorry to hear that chellski...I'm very worried too since I'm going to Orlando
for a week and I have a feeling I'll be in the sun pretty much all day too!

I guess I better stay out of the sun as much as I can, but I hate to be a pain in da butt :)  I started hep c theraphy about 4 weeks ago..
