Alt and ASt test results sat test

I am meeting with a liver specialist to morrow. In November I had routine blood work done. My AST and ALT were
381 and 288 . Of course, my DR says I need to stop taking Crestor and be retested in 6 weeks. The test results had dropped but not significantly. Thus I was rechecked in Nother 6 weeks and no real change.

I had an ultra sound done last week. Get a call from my GP he wants me to see a specialist. I am scared as this is now moving quickly. An ultra sound and a specialist within 5 days. ....Thinking not a good sign.

Anyway, appt with the specialist is tomorrow afternoon. Any suggestions for questions I should ask. From my takes on what I have read it seems the next step is a biopsy...

Any suggestions?

The blood test was for viral load and genotype. Why does it take a week to get the results? Guess I am ready to attack whatever is going on in my body.
The wine isn't a problem. But Ihate milk...lol

Too late for the meeting! I hope it went well. Give us a post and let us know the details, if you are inclined. It is always good to see how others are doing and compare notes. :-)

I was worried that the ultrasound perhaps turned up a tumor. I am glad that is not the case!

Enlarged liver cold be a sign of advanced disease or sometimes it is nothing. The biopsy is the gold standard, still, fo assessing disease progress. In any case, alcohol with hep C has been likened to "pouring gasoline on a fire."

The genotype for you virus is the most importing item for deciding treatment options. Disease stage (from biopsy) could be important also if you are already in stage 4.

You are fortunate to live in a time when there are good (success rate-wise, anyway) treatment options for all genotypes. They are expensive and sometimes difficult, but failure is much more rare than it used to be.

Best luck to you!

So, you do have Hepatitis C? Do you know your viral load and genotype or is that what the blood tests today will determine? I'm not sure what the implications of are of an enlarged liver but maybe your elevated liver enzymes explains the Hepatitis. Either way you'll know more after you have your biopsy. No wine with dinner sounds easy enough to pull off. It's not like how I was back in the day (a liter of vodka before diner ~ har har). Hang in there and don't be a stranger ♪

Sorry, I'll try to be clear in posting.
Yes, I have tested positive for Hep C.
I spent about and hour and half with the doctor today.
He confirmed the diagnose. We are doing another blood workup today .

My liver is enlarged. We have scheduled the biopsy July as I have been having wine with dinner. And he wants no liquor for 60 days.

I have been scheduled for followup blood test for the next eight weeks.

He said the good news was liver disease wentslow

Elevate liver enzymes (medication ruled out) is a very good reason to be tested for all of the the hepatitis viruses. You are correct in thinking that the next step is probably a liver biopsy. Did the MD say anything about the ultrasound, or was he referring you out to a specialist just based on the abnormal liver panel?

Have you been tested for Hepatitis C (and B)?
Do you have Hepatitis C (or B)?

If you have not had a Hepatitis Panel, you should have one.
If the Hep C test is positive for antibodies, then you need to have another test (HCV RNA) to determine if you have just the antibodies or if you have active chronic Hepatitis C.

If you do have Hepatis C and you know that for sure, then post it here. People can respond more accurately to your questions if they know more about you.

I understand why adjusting your medication was the first step when your doctor saw that your liver enzymes are considerably elevated  but usually the next step when no change takes place after that is to wonder about the possibility of Hepatitis C. Did your doctor test for HCV? If so, it would seem the step after that would be a biopsy to see what shape your liver is in. Were the results of your ultrasound unremarkable or was there something to indicate further investigation?

Actually either way a biopsy might be a good idea. Mine lasted about three minutes and it was painless. I had two and both were like that. The results take about a week or so.

So, did I miss something in your post or did your doctor test to see if you have Hepatitis C?
