Amanda is having a biopsy tomorrow...Use for other Posts...

Wanted everyone to know Amanda will be having another liver biopsy tomorrow.  We are hoping for some good news this time...She has been on treatment 3 times; Peg Intron, pegasys and daily infergen..with and without gamma, as well as zadaxin...She has not responded to any of these treatments, but we are hopeful that the health of her liver may have improved from the cirrhosis that she had on her last biopsy a year and a half ago.. We will give you all an update as soon as we have some results.. Amanda just turned 17 last month, she feels and looks healthy.  Her platelets are still around 100 and her wbc is still low...but we are still hopeful for some improved results.

Please use this post for other questions as well.

Best wishes to all.

Jodi

I rarely pray, but Amanda will definately get me to have words with the man tonight..
I will hope and pray for reversal of damage, as I know how she feels. I was diagnosed at 15 or 16, but didn't get my damage report till 26.. Its hard being so young, and for her to be going through these different tx's like she has, she is a real trooper. She is an inspiration to me and many others.. Best wishes to you both..

My doctor believes that treatment relieves liver damage. He also told not to worry -that new treatments are coming. He believes maintenence shots can slow down the virus with out the discomforts of full tx. I'm a stage 4. best wishes to you and Amanda.

Jodi and Amanda,
My thoughts will be with you both tomorrow.  As everyone else here: I wish for Amanda to have great results on her biopsy and it is great news that she is feeling good and looking healthy!  That is great!  I hope she is able to carry on as normal as possible with her life and enjoying her young 17 years!  My thoughts are with you as well as so many others here and are hoping for a new tx to come along soon to help her. She is an inspiration to many of us.
Big hugs to you both,
Scott

Jodi, I hope the bx goes well and the results are good.

What is the curent thinking on treating a teen?  A friend has a 17 year old, and she doesn't want her to treat.  I think she's (the mother, who also has HCV and won't treat) in denial, she keeps saying she's hoping for it to clear spontaneously, but she's been infected since birth, so it's unlikely.  I know that the less time infected, the higher the rate of SVR, but is tx recommended for teens?

So glad to read that Amanda is feeling and looking healthy. That is a positive sign. Good luck tomorrow. Thanks for thinking of us. I'm crossing my fingers for great results on her biopsy and future tx options.

Take care.

Travelmom,

I'm so glad to hear that Amanda has been looking well and from the way it sounds, maintains her positive attitude.  She's better at that than I am!  My prayers are with you.  As you know, I've been through 7 treatment rounds myself, so I can relate to being treated over and over again, only to find that you've not gone to SVR, but as I said, she's a real trooper.  I just can't imagine what it must be like for her, going through this at 17! I failed to respond to my last treatment of Infergen, Riba and Actimmune.  I'm going to a new doctor in Lakeland pretty soon.  It has been scheduled for Apr 6th, but it depends on whether or not I can find someone to go with me.  I've got a really messed up back at the present time and I'm scheduled to see a surgeon soon about that.  So, that's another issue.  The thing is that I'd need to have someone drive on the way back because it's about a 2 to 2-1/2 hr drive from here and I'd definitely need to take something for pain by the time I made it over there on the 1 way.  This is a liver doctor that I heard about from someone here on the message boards, can't remember who.  He's not a Hepatologist, just a good gastro(according to her).  I don't know about where you are, but down here in my area of Florida, most of the doctors aren't interested in re-treating someone like me, even for maintenance dosing.  So, I'm praying that this doctor will listen to me and work with me.  And saying some strong prayers for Amanda.

Take care.

I'll be thinking fondly of you tomorrow, as I often do...
really, your daughter is seeing more tribulation than most of us have seen and this is so unfair. I hope tomorrow will mark a turn for the better in her story.

Jodi,

Please let Amanda know that we're praying for her.  That kid has been through more trials and tribulation than anyone her age should ever have to bear.  I truly hope that God is merciful and grants her healing.  A girl of 17 should be thinking about the prom --- not liver biopsies.  Best wishes to you and her tomorrow.
