Anyone juicing or used to juice before tx?

I'm not sure whether to continue since starting treatment. I read somewhere about high levels of vitamin K not being good and I have a question regarding parlsey and cilantro being detoxifiers, whether its better to not juice those either. Also, beetroot is very good for the blood but would it be too good while doing treatment? All the dark leafy greens I used to juice (kale, spinach, swiss chard) I am reluctant to juice also till I know the answer. Doctors are useless in this regard. Most doctors do not learn nutrition while at Med School. There is barely enough room in my stomach once I eat the 20gms of fat so I feel that my nutrition is going downhill at a time when I really need it to be high.

see...you are getting a lot of good info...so am I.  I would love to know where to buy large quantities of coconut water...it is expensive in the smaller sizes.  Love coconut milk too. But I too can't eat large portions of food like I use to & that's why I eat smaller portion at 2 - 3 hour intervals.  And drink plenty of water. Yesterday my liver specialist said it was good to drink black coffe too...one or two cups daily...no sugar, creamer. Working on that one...not a plain coffee fan...and getting use to drinking tea without sugar was bad enough. Just always, even when you get well, avoid red meats and processed meats.  Stick to chicken, turkey or fish. I use to live on smoked swordfish when I lived in the keyes but wouldn't be able to have it not because of the smoking. Good luck and Continue to be an advocate of how you feed your machine when you get well too.

you mean raw fish salad with coconut milk ? Sounds yum.
I used to love aioli dressing - now the smell of it almost makes me want to puke but it is high fat and the base is rice bran oil so I keep telling myself its good for the incivek tabs.

Try fish salad with coconut milk.

I bought lots of smoked salmon to start with (which I loved) but once I started tx I couldn't touch it :(

I wouldn't worry, your almost at end of treatment, you got to get those veggies some way,one glass a day is fine, with juicing you get all your nutrients but don't get the fiber from it,only celery will give a bit of the fiber. The most important part of SOC treatment is the first 12 weeks the rest is just a mop up.

Thanks again heart_in_the_keyes. I was given no literature. The specialist nurse has never looked after anyone on triple tx before. This forum has been a godsend and so has Diana66 who lives in the same city as me. I asked about Vitamin B12 and chlorophyll and she sent off my query to the drug company. A week later they wrote back to say that they could not find any info on their database saying it negatively impacts the incivek treatment. That doesn't mean its ok though I think. There have probably been no studies specifically looking at this? I am like ActingBrandNew - can't fit a lot of food in my stomach so drinking a juice would be an easy way to up my nutrition levels.
atm, I am having a scrambled egg for breakfast with spinach or bean sprouts in it, with whole grain bread and margarine.
Lunch is 2 slices of whole grain bread with cheese, onion and tomato grilled in the oven.
Dinner is smoked salmon with a bit of vege and fatty salad dressing. (This will have to change as I'm starting to get sick of it.)

every thing you listed in that post should be okay...except the lime..The invicek counselor I called said that the only fruit you couldn't eat was citrus. .can't do citrus while on Invicek. And let's be relalistic...you aren't going to juice that much leaf dark greens to put you in danger. Love cucumbers...it's like poor diana said though, it is what your taste buds can handle.  strange how they change, Use to be a chocoholic...loved chocolate...now I don't ever want it.  And even though not on tx I understand what everyone is saying from the other 3 studies I was on that included interferon, riba and peg.  and actingbrandnew is right...no citrus...and need to watch sodium and iron...orphanedhawk gave me a good tip of not even cooking in that old cast iron pan that I use to use.  Iron is in everything from chicken to fruit to vegetables.... again, I encourage every one to start reading and researching what they are putting in their bodies...and thanks Pooh...you are right in the order of when to take that fat and the pills.  Question for everyone on Invicek...I got a manual and so much literature when I went for the set-up appointments....did everyone get that info too?  And again...moderation in everything is your best ally and it doesn't really matter what works for me...it what works for you that is important.  Avacodos...great source of fat...  You really got a lot of good information on this post...I liked the posts too.  anyone with good food ideas or combos send me a message...I am deadly serious about how upsetting this is that there isn't really a good overall guideline for food and vitamins and supplements.  Let me know your thoughts.  Good luch nizkiwilife...will be interested as you go forward what you are doing.

I'm confused...Please bare with me....

I started juicing 2 weeks ago (Romaine,Kale,Celery, Carrots, Pineapple, Tabasco Sauce with a low iron mixed green powder) 1X a day...I love it. Its the only way I get my veggies.

I'm confused because Ive read many who juice while on TX....and then many who say not too while on TX (Iron, citrus, etc) So, if this is the only source of veggies I'm getting and its 1x a day, is it harmful? If it is harmful, is there any juice that can be had while treating? A specific recipe would be nice.

" If you are on tx it is most important to eat fat foods within 30 minutes after injection."
-------------------------

I just want to correct a statement made in an above post.

The meal containing 20 grams of fat needs to be eaten BEFORE taking the pills. The pills need to be taken within 30 minutes AFTER eating a meal containing 20 grams of fat.

Best of luck.

yep, not sure about chlorophyll, I have my bottle here too, did not open it yet
Apparently it is good for the platelets but to be honest since I did not find any research on interactions with Telarprevir, I stopped juicing at least for the duration of the Incivek. I even called the people ofJansens, they have no clue and told me to ask the doctor. As if they will have any clue.. There is no study yet on the interaction of Telaprevir and other things. There is a definite NO GRAPEFRUIT but this is it really

I have been told that Incivek has lots of restriction where when on Riba some vitamins might work out

So even though I was doing B12 injection on the first 4 weeks when on Riba, I stopped even that. I will resume in 2 weeks time. Apparently B12 is an antiviral as well

Got my B12 prescription today and also some vit D of 50,000 units - one tablet per week

Looking forward to go back to my juicing and smoothies once I am off tx

I didn't juice while on treatment but took supplements in form of Vitamins,a super B complex also Vitamins C,D E and garlic supplement, ate  fish, fruits and veggies, nuts, eggs, granola  powerbars.Ate steak, pork, chicken many times mainly because I had huge cravings for those meats,so I listened to my body.

Anyone with Hep C should juice in moderation mainly because when juicing you get high levels of Vit K,A and iron, especially when on treatment because Vit A and K like grapefruit may interfere with a lot of meds, why risk it,Juicing beetroots and leafy greens like kale and spinach will give you high levels of iron.

I started juicing again right after treatment,my energy and CBC went right back up to normal range within about 2 weeks. Now 6 months post treatment I juice 3 or 4 times a week.I use only organic my favorite is beetroot, cucumber, celerery, parsley, apple and ginger.

I will make you some Diana66. I can make the green juice so its not so sweet. The cilantro I get either from my neighbour or from a vege shop.
The greens don't seem to have much to them? Hardly any pulp and not much juice. I use the Oscar/Omega slow juicer too.
I would love to use more beetroot as its supposed to be very good for the blood but I will continue to research it - making more blood could be good or bad - it might increase haemoglobin count but could make the virus replicate more?!?!
Also am wondering about chlorophyll - it apparently makes more rna so that could be good or bad too.

ooo, I need to come over for the cilantro/parsley one. Do you grow some of that stuff or is just from the organic shop?

I was having almost same things although I did have eggs and fish from time to time

I did not manage to almost any juice from the kale. Maybe was not a great bunch?  I was doing the carrot/ beetroot/ cucumber/ wheat grass on an Oscar juicer with low rotation

Hope your taste buds get back to normal after the incivek Diana66!
What about a juice with cucumber as that is very alkalising?
Only 2 weeks to go for you and I am only 2 weeks in.
I think my start of tx was so traumatic because of the radical change in diet.
I used to only eat whole foods - nothing processed out of a packet or with an expiry date. No tea/coffee, dairy, meat, eggs, fish.
Juice once a day - my favourite is carrots/celery/beetroot/ginger/tumeric alternated with cucumber/celery/parsley/cilantro/lime/apple/ginger/tumeric and some dark leafy green (kale/spinach/swiss chard)

I managed to drink a small juice today between breakfast and the afternoon incivek. I will try to do this from now on.

thank you for your insight heart_in_the_keyes. All the best to you.

Yep, i was juicing a lot before tx but stopped now

To start with, I canoot cope with anything sweet. So i am bothered by water mellon, bananas, or any other fruit. Could not even touch strawberries. I think the Incivek altered the acidity in my stomach. I am waaaay to acid theses days. Even more, can't even tink at having a juice .

I am hoping everything will get better after Incivek. 2 weeks to go for me.

oh and ps...you do have to do juicing in moderation....it is necessary for your body to eat whole foods too.  plus  juice juices will be high in sugars. Moderation is important in everything you do now.  My doctor gave me the best piece of advice and that was to eat smaller more frequent meals.  I was always a meal skipper so this was hard and am still working on to do.  Set timers on my cell to alert me.  Even if I am not not hunger and that bell goes off I will try to eat a couple strawberries or eat a few frozen blueberries or a few spoonfuls of something. I keep a small container of shredded raw carrots. This is good...chop up an apple, add a large spoonfuld of shredded carrots...throw in a couple of tablespoons of greek yogurt or just do the apple with a large tablespoon of peanut butter and a teaspoon of agave or honey.  Also try to do a 1/2 a cup of slow cook oatmeal with almond milk, apple or dried cranberries every day.  Also set a bell for for water consumption so that I am drinking atleast a couple of ounces of water every hour or two.  Cut the cokes. Drink teas and coffees.  Watch the sugars and the creamers they are not good for you. Once you get off tx use lemon for tea instead.  Sorry if I seem to be making this a mission but am ESLD stage 4 w/decompensated liver and they took me off the tx...wish I had had the opportunity to do it ....good luck to you on tx !!!

Amen...just told my liver specialist today when I saw him that if I live long enough I am going to write a book on nuitrition for people with liver diseases.  I bought into the Montel Williams juice bit a few years back and it helps...now I am really getting into it.  It's better to fix the juices yourself to avoid additives.  I also have a Nutribullet and do a fruit juice in a.m. and then a veggie mix in the afternoon.  First it is becoming an advocate and student of food.  Like corn and peas are actually high starch loads.  Tomatos are a fruit, not a vegetable. When you do tx they tell you to not do citrus fruits...that is more than oranges, lemons and grapefruits...there are about 20 of them.  Avacodos are great...veggie...even though they are high in fat.  Avoid processed foods...period.  No read meats...and there are good fats and there are bad fats. And all of this is trial and error because you have to find out what works for you.  If you are on tx it is most important to eat fat foods within 30 minutes after injection.  Read, read, read and research.  Went to nuitritionist in last 30 days and was shocked at her lack of knowledge.  Even when going through the tx pre-meetings the clinical coord and the person from the drug company weren't even on the same page.  Can you say CONfusing??? This was one of the first questions I had when I started on the site last year in sept.  There are a lot of good posts that were put out in the last 90 days that you can review too.
I love spices too. Carrots, bell peppers and dark leafy greens are great source of vit A. Juicing and even fixing your own soups will eliminate a lot oof additives, unnecessary sugars and sodium.  Be sure to drink plenty of water.  I make a pineapple or mango smoothie and freeze them in popcicle molds...yum.  Go to library...bookstore...even Dr. Oz has good juice drinks to make. My morning juice is a combo of apple, pineapple, banana, mango and kiwi.  Bright green but very good. Good luck in your food/juice journey.
