Birmingham physicians

Hey all
I have not been here in quite some time.  I was diagnosed with hep c last year, completed 48 weeks of very successful treatment and am looking for a referral for my new location.  We moved to Birmingham, AL from NC (treatment was taken in NC) and I will need to continue seeing a gastro/hepat physician for occasional follow up.  I know there is the Kirkland Clinic here, but do not have anyone to ask if they are the ideal place for me.  Does anyone have any experience in this area with the doctors associated with hep c.  Thanks for any/all help.
Sandy

I went to the kirkland clinic in 2002 for cronic hep c treatment. there is only 25 to 30 percent chance they work. you will have to give yourself a shot of interferon and it plus the ribaviron pills you take makes you so sick. i took the shots once a week for 48 weeks. it went into remission but came back 6 months after i finished the treatments. they are great people and doctors but the treatments are just pure hell. I found dr john phillips in tupelo mississippi went there and took second treatment which was a shot of infergin EVERY DAY for 48 weeks plus the ribaviron pillls. again in remission but came back.that was the sickest i have ever been in my life. bottom line two years of treatments and it didnt work now ther is nothing else they can do unless something new comes out. good luck and god bless

Thank you!  I did contact alagirl yesterday, it sounds as if UAB is the hospital to go if one gets sick.  There are quite a few physicians in this area and hopefully alagirl will be able to shead some light on the best one for me.  Thank you all again.

I wish I could help but I went to a Dr in Alabaster and in no way I could refer anyone to him. UAB does have a liver center that you might like to call.

While I haven't seen the hep docs at the UAB, I can say that we received excellent care at that facility when my mother had her lung transplant.

It may be a good place to start because it is a large teaching facility and would have access to the latest treatments and trials.

Wish ya luck =)
