Booze

Ok...for the gajillionth time.

Is booze always off limits after successful treatment?  Last year there was a woman here named "BritGirl" who moved to Brazil and was looking forward to having an occasional glass of red.

Today I read about a person with SVR who rotted out their liver.

My doc has told me that because I have mild damage and no inflammation that a beer or glass of wine now and then is fine (ever without SVR).

I'm sure that anyone with a healthy liver can drink it into oblivion over a course of time.

Can anyone point to a study that gives data about HCV patients drinking modest amounts; both SVR and non-SVR.

Someday I'd really like to have the occasional glass of wine with dinner and/or social settings.

OK...I have braced myself for the wrath of Revenire, etc.

I'm hoping to be normal again someday.

Mike

Interesting, we all know the disease runs in families but this sheds a light on why some find it harder to quit. If my craving were x amount stronger because I carry both genes, it would be much harder for me to just say no vs someone who doesn't salivate like Pavlov's dog at the thought of a cold one.
Thanks.

HOW DOES B-A-B-E-S TURN INTO *****?  what kind of filter turns a good word into a bad one?

It may seem like a minor point in clarification, but I believe there's a significant difference between the water I foresaw and the water you foresaw. I'll concede that your interpretation portends a lot more fun... depending on the quality of the co-bathers of course!

Forseemyselfinhowater! I laughed out loud when I saw that. You've got a point there, put a hat over it and no one will notice it tho.

but, I can't just deny that I worry about the folks here and must peek in once in a while! how are you doing?  It does take a lot of your time to read through all the threads, so you just have to step away.  Plus, I just became a grandma of finches back in Xmas and I spend more time watching them and the parents and awwwing about the wonder of life...

I see some things have not changed, no matter how long I am away!

I am dismounting the dead horse, actually, I dismounted a while back.  Call the ASPCA, they might have better answers.

Hey forsee - just re-read my post and it came across as you bein' prosthetizing.... didn't mean to say that at all. I was more making an observation about the lightning rod affect the alchohol threads have on the board vis-a-vis other lifestyle issues.

So, landing strip or dorrito?

as i sit here puffin on a kingsize unfiltered marlboro, calling for philip morris to slosh just a tad more single malt over the cubes, my eyes drift downward to my ample girth that mercifully  hides the terribly botched and ill concealed dye job-that's it! no more thongs !!! by the by,the toilet paper must always come over the top sure as god created green apples..and baby finches

I must say that yes, the ***** had to come first over the toilet paper issue (don't tell me there are folks that hang it under!) and booze.  I am going to try and post a link to some pics, and forewarn those who have not seen baby finches that only a grandma can love those faces!  Some would call them ugly to my dismay.  They are about 3 wks old and finally look like birds!  It has been a beautiful journey!
unless, we are not supposed to talk finches in the forum?  isn't the other side the one for chat?  what do we do? direct people to the other forum for the link?  Argh!
I see there is still a lot of chatting and off topic going on, is anybody following the new "rules"?

I guess it comes down to what we mean by 'now and then' (original post), 'here and there' (my post), and 'routine' (your post). I'll hold fast that generally educating people on the benefits of an overall healthy lifestyle would carry more value than prosthelizing about the 'occaisional' glass of wine. That was really my point - why the backlash against the 'occaisional' glass of wine vs. all the other harmful activities we collectively undertake?

As long as were going to argue why not make it over something meaningful like 'landing strip vs dorrito' or 'bloomers vs thong'?

hmmmm, just for the sake of argument, and god knows there are some arguers here, I don't exactly agree on some of these other issues being as bad as routine drinking with the disease, except of course being overweight and smoking, but those are other issues, and deserve their own threads, not!!! ha ha!

Our compelling tribulations preempted by a couple of finches? Oy Vey! And we were just about to move on to 'Which way to hang the Toilet Paper"! Oh well, back to your birds. Your loss.

Aww - some little finches.  I bet they are wonderful to watch.  We have 3 cats and they are a blast to watch and play with.

I am going for my 6 month PCR next week.  For some reason I thought I would be anxious but I don't feel that way.  If it worked, and so far it has, or not doesn't really concern me.  I am placing my outcome in the powers above or within or what not.

Glad you come on once in a while.  I agree waaay to many threads to read every day.

You are fortunate for having knowledgeable people helping you with liver friendly drugs.  I used to take Tylenol throughout the day for many years before I was diagnosed.  Who would have thunk back then?

I wonder what the Tylenol did to my liver???  Did I harm it more than a couple of drinks.  It's a real **** shoot before hearing about having Hep C, and what was the real culprit in liver damage.

Oh why do I feel compelled to jump in the middle of this? Obviously too much time on my hands. I agree with Goof, mainly because of personal experience. While I never considered my self an alcoholic I enjoyed social drinking after my kids were grown. This with hepc should have given me significant liver damage since I had it 30+ years. However, my biopsy states stage 1 grade II. My liver enzymes were always normal. My drinking did not cause significant damage. And yes I know maybe I would be stage and grade 0 if I hadn't had alcohol, but my point is that it didn't pour fuel to the flame. Having said that, I have no desire to drink, I can't imagine drinking after finishing this tx, but I can't imagine that alcohol in moderation is any worse than some of the other factors Goof has listed. If someone is able to live a perfect life thru diet, no smoking, exercise and no alcohol they can definitely live in a glass house

i must concur on some level w/ your assement;william burroughs lived to a ripe old age as an addict of some 20+ yrs, couse he also had unlimited resources..the war on drugs is really one more war we aren't winning, and the prison population just keeps growin apace..we need less moral judgemnt & more proactive trx...but above all a real solution!
Goofy- living in a glass home as we speak and i found your vibrator(batteries are quite dead)- do i get that 10 minute peek into the girls shower room? that should be just about time enuff,or maybe i could trade it for two separate 5 minute peeks? let he without sin cast the 1st stone-but not towards the house!!!!

Hi,although in the past I've been involved in the heroin using world I've been clean for over twenty years. The thing about supplying heroin to addicts in Holland is they do it in a controlled environment, pure Diamorph used in sterile rooms with medical professionals present.Maintenance doses are given and obviously these are people who have made a decision to control their addiction and are not out to kill themselves by sticking any drug available into their bodies. The ODing  thing is unheard of,in fact before prohibition in many countries including the US it was never a problem (deliberate ODing as practised by suicides and the medical profession is a different thing). The bottom line about this is,the average age in Holland for a heroin addict is mid thirties and going up,the average age in the UK is early twenties and going down.Yes more help in the form of clinics and all the other things are needed but the methadone substitution route as practised in the UK doesn't work the method used in Holland and Switzerland does. The same prescribing of heroin method was used in the UK up until the early seventies, it worked well then media driven hysteria hit it was abandoned and guess what criminal suppliers moved in people started dieing like flies from OD's etc and sadly still do in ever increasing numbers.I don't see it happening in the US either but hopefully more European countries will look at the evidence and see it's the only reasonable course to take. There's a lot of BS about heroin addiction and the image of the down and out street junkie is part of it plenty of heroin users lead quiet  and productive lives it's when their supply is interrupted that things go haywire.
