Hey gang, I haven't posted in a year and I'm still clear.  Although, my brother has been drinking for a long time.  He has been diagnosis with Hep C Liver Obstruction and cirrosis.  He hasn't had a biopspy.  Med's he taken Protonix, Furosemide, Spironol, and water pills.  Does this mean the end?  thanks.  Lori

Hey, you go, what an amazing story...shows that docs aren't always right about these things, thank God...my younger sister has a story very similar to yours, she had liver and kidney failure, over three years ago now...they told her she prob wouldn't be around now, but she's okay considering, walking 2 miles every other day...thank God for all these "miracles"

Unless he quits drinking and makes major lifestyle changes,he's liver will never have a chance to heal.

I've been classified as ESLD-end stage liver disease-for 5 yrs ever since my liver quit.

The nite I had a major esophogeal anurism and almost bled to death and my liver failed and I say the white light-Ihe er docs told my family that I would die that nite.

Then I had the hep c dx and was given a few months.  Well, like you, I beat the hep c.

So now I'm still cirrohtic and =de-domp'd' b/cl.

I'm about to beat another  statistic.  People w/a major esophogeal bleed have less thean 10% chance to live 5 yrs.

It will be 5 yrs in Sept.

So no one can tell.  B/major life style changes can and do give someone a fighting chance and a few good yrs if nothing else.

I am so sorry your brother is going through this. You are very sweet to try to get info for him and for yourself. I don't know much about the progression that happens when a person gets advanced in the cihrrosis. I have it too, but in the early stages. So I am scared too. I do know there are other forums for people with end stage liver. They probable have more info on stuff like that. I was reading one when I first found out I had cirhosis. But I don't know the name now. It could be the one that was mentioned in the last response.
Congrates on your SVR!!! Take Care.

So very sorry you were twisting in the wind there for some time without response; I'm still new to this forum and I hope you trust me when I say that you have stumbled onto a nest of very kind and nurturing people who share a common malady yet press anead and do their best to help others who are experiencing a rough spot in their treatment or lives for that matter. (That was a long sentence, my fingers are tired!) I was having a very bad day yesterday so I was pretty self-centered, sorry. Most people on this board will go out of their way to let you know that we are lay-people, to the best of my understanding nobody here is a physician. Your question, for me anyway was way too specific and complex to answer. All I can do now is recommend that you keep coming to the forum, take part and try to be patient. You might also search the archives. I never have but your answers may be in there.
Peace
