Can I Take Advantage of Ordered MRI?

Hi:  So after agreeing to expose myself to a CT despite being concerned about the radiation, my hepatologist ordered a follow up MRI to get a better look at an area that looks like a cyst.  I have a mammorgram and gyno appnts scheduled in a few weeks.  I'm higher risk for breast cancer.  (My mother died in her 40's of breast cancer and I have numerous relatives who have had cancer.)  My last mammogram required a second set of x-rays as my breast tissue is dense.  Since the MRI is more sensitive in detecting early breast cancer (but also known to result in more false positives), I'd think a breast MRI could be useful.  I also have had cysts on my uterus and know that an elevated alpha fetoprotein could also be indicative of tumors on the reproductive organs.  Would it be crazy to ask my doc if they can scan other areas of my body as well, as long as I'm there?  Or does this require a different setup with the equipment and/or unobtainable hoops to jump thru with the insurance company?  I'm guessing I'll be dismissed as a female hypochondriac with floating uterus syndrome.  :>)  Thought I would ask.

How about a full body scan? Since you have family history of cancer I would think you'd be a good candidate for that. I had a MRI yesterday because I have constant headaches. Although I think they come from the treatment medication, my GP wants to make sure. I'm all about making sure! I just hope they can do something for these headaches!

I have to get a second mamagram because of calcification next week too. My breast tissue is dense also. Are we living in a parallel universe?
