stage 4 cirrohsis

I'm a 57 yr old recovering addict/alcoholic who contracted hcv in 1975 thru iv drug use. I got clean and sober in 2001 and remain so today, in 2010 I did 68 wks of Pegasus and ribivarin. I cleared the virus at 16 wks and remained clear til wk 69 of a 70 wk treatment. I have mri& ultrasound every 6 mos checking for tumors and labs drawn every 3-6 mos. I am getting ready to do another tx, this time thru Bristol Myers, as a clinical trial participant.  I had to have another biopsy done and determined stage 4 compensated. I have been more or less symptom free though certainly can tell when I overdo it at work and elsewhere. I have never been approached about a transplant and consider my relationship with my gastronomy Dr. to be very close and personal. I know stage 4 is not a death sentence but along with the hcv type 1 can be. This study is tailored for people who have been treated and failed and cirrohsis is necessary to qualify. I plan to start within the week for a 12 wk tx ,supposedly 70-80 cure rate for persons like myself. This is a three part combination ,that has been tested already, that they want to combine w/ ribivarin to possibly increase the success rate. I have alot of things running around in my squirrel cage as to where this all goes and more than anything I'm just not ready to check out IF I can help it! Just wondering?

Good luck with your treatment especially not having to use interferon

I believe it's BMS #793125
I'm guessing this is the study
A Study of an Investigational Treatment Regimen of Daclatasvir(DCV)+Asunaprevir(ASV)+BMS-791325 in a Fixed Dose Combination(the Triple Regimen)With or Without Ribavirin(RBV)for 12 Weeks for the Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C Virus(HCV)Genotype 1 Infection in Subjects With Compensated Cirrhosis

Masking is Double blind for RBV: two or more parties are unaware of the intervention assignment.

Thank you for your responses and your concerns, it feels good to fight the fight along side of people going thru the same struggles as I. I have finished day 1 and I have to say I'm very optimistic not too mention feeling much better w/o interferon in the mix. Thank you all and look forward to hearing from you in the future!

Daclatasvir and Asunaprevir and BMS #703125 or something. They are adding Ribivarin to the mix for half of the participants. I'll keep posting. I apologize if I've answered this twice, new at this format.

sorry to hear you went through all that treatment and did not achieve svr!  I can understand why you are thinking thinking thinking your situation.  There is no reason to even think about checking out as these new drugs are really curing a lot of people.  Just keep doing your research and ask lots of questions.  you dont mention which trial you are in.  If you search this forum where the magnifying glass under the tree of hands is and just put in "questions to ask about being in a trial" a lot of previous threads are there.  I thought there was one thread that had most of them on one page that you could print off to take to your trial doc.  You really need to ask these questions so you will know what to expect.  I was in a trial and thought I did my homework and was still surprised!  Best of luck to you this time around!
