A few of us here have been treated/consulted with the UM doc's.  I saw one of the others.  I don't recall any mentioning O'Brien, Schiff and Jeffers are more frequent mentions. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with any of them.  The hepatology clinic at UM, as a whole, is highly regarded.  One thing that you should expect is if you are a new patient there's a pretty long wait to get in and see them.  Make an appointment soon and make sure you have good directions, the drive is kinda tricky - especially the parking.  Over the years I've read many hepatitis studies and trial results and have seen his name crop up many times as one of the authors/participants.  You can review the docs' bakground and areas of interest at the UM website.  Here's a start, you can google for info on him.   http://www.med.miami.edu/medicine/x549.xml?id=34891

i have been a patient of dr o;briens when he was at the university of penn.in phila.he is not only a great doc but he gave me treatment when i had no health ins. he also gave me medication at no cost to me due to my situation.let me say that he treated me so well that i now travel from new jersey to florida every six months at my own expense. i have insurance but he is out of network so i take a vacation just to see him . he is truely the best.let me also say that a neighbor of mine was a head nurse at a top phila hosp. and it was her that reserched the best for me and i waited three months for my first appointment.boy was it worth the wait.good luck and please rest assure he is the best.      joe
