Diagnosised with viral Hepatitis

Could someone please give my some advise.  I have had elevated liver enzemes since October and have had a sonogram that was normal and a biospy that came back with hepatic tissue.  The doctor simply said that I had viral hepatitis and told me it would have to run its course there was nothing he could do for me.  My question is should he have not deteremined which type it was?  He did test me for A, B and C which were all negative.  I have an appointment with a specialist at a teaching hospital next Monday, so I am hopefully that they will be able to help me.  Any advise would be appreciated.

Are you certain he said the word "viral".  Hepatitis means inflammation.  You liver can have inflamation for many different reasons.....viral hepatitis being one of them.  If you are sure you  tested negative for antibodies for A, B and C, I would suggest going back to the doctor for clarification.

A biopsy coming back with hepatic tissue is kinda the reason for having a biopsy.....to get a sample of hepatic tissue (liver tissue)  The results whould have told them more that that.  Again, I suggest going back for clarification.

Sorry....I see you have an appointment today....ask, ask, ask and then give us an update.  Good luck =)

I don't know how the first doctor could diagnose viral hepatitiis if you tested negative for all the main types-A,B and C.
The specialist you are seeing at the teaching hospital should be able to order the correct tests to form a proper diagnosis.
