Encouraging News

I am in week 28 of Triple Med Tx (incivek). Although I still have mild flu like symptoms, expecially after my injections, mostly I feel fatigued and have weak muscles. Also the muscles fatigue easily and quickly. I had a lot of joint pains while on Incivek and for a few weeks afterward.

For several years I have noticed gradually increasing joint aches and pains, especially my hips and knees, but sometimes other areas (wrists).  I have had increasing difficulty going up and down the stairs, getting up off of the floor, kneeling, and getting up out of a low chair due to joint pains.

Here is the encouraging news. I am still on Interferon and Riba but I have noticed that I have little jount pain now (in fact none right now) and I can go up and down stairs easily. I can get up out of a low chair without pushing myself up with my arms. I think this is positive news because I should be weaker due to less activity and not much walking while on treatment. I am very encouraged by this development and hope it means that those joint pains were from the Hep C and that now they will improve or totally disappear (if I can stay UND.)

This is anecdotal, and I cannot prove that there is a correlation between being UND and having no joint pain. However, I do think there is a correlation and I am excited and encouraged to think I may get rid of the joint problems. if I can stay UND.

We read about people who report long tern negative side effects of treatment and I want to report that I seem to be having positive results from treatment, not just being UND but also the improvement of other problems.

This is very encouraging news and must be a tremendous relief for you. I am earlier in treatment then you and for the last couple of weeks have gradually lost strength so I know first hand how frightening and discouraging it can be to lose basic functioning ever so gradually. To not even be able to do the simple tasks one has done so many times in the past without thought.

Sure, we all love verifiable facts and figures but it is the anecdotal stories that give me hope. People who came out on the other side and lived to tale the tale. So often this whole journey seems like maybe it was not the right move. It is good to hear someone's account that shows it is.
