Fellow Women in treatment.....

For the past few weeks, I have been battling a "female infection" with over the counter products.  I am able to get rid of it, only to have it come right back.  My wbc and anc are both low, and have been now, for awhile.  Is this probably the reason why?  Should I keep battling with otc products, or do you think it is time for a dr to intervene?  I am just so tired of docs, I was trying to battle this myself.

Thanks for all your feedback!!

Jean

I had a slight UTI last week and, after 2 days on antibiotics, it started to feel a lot better but then the vaginal thing came on so I started on the OTC cream for that.  I didn't realize it, but an irritated vagina from a yeast infection, etc. can also make your bladder feel like you have a UTI.  In fact, I started to get the irritated bladder feeling back after a few days on the antibiotic so I went back to my doc who checked my urine and found it clear.  She just told me to continue to force the water and it would go away.  I found that as soon as my vaginal area was less irritated, the bladder feeling got better too.

If your itching continues at bedtime, you might try Vagisil  or Desitin on the external area to see if that cuts down the itching while you sleep.  That is, until you get to the point that you decide it's time to check with the doc for an RX.  I hope the OTC stuff does the trick for you because I know how irritating it is to go to all these doc appts.  :)

Also, the cranberry juice thing is a great way to help cut down on UTIs!

It came back... Got another swab done... Now I have been given a script for several packages of the 1 tablet fluconazole 150mg time release (the one which stays for 7 days). So if it comes back, I should be able to take it again. The doc recons that it might be one of my sides which could maybe persist nearly all the way through tx. Thank God I don't have thrush of the mouth though, no mouth sores! But anyway, fluconazole also takes care of fungal infection of the mouth (thrush) intestines, nails, skin, stomach, lungs and urinary tract. So perfect for any tx related fungal infections.

Just to add to your stats: I'm at week 15 and I've also been struggling with this for the past two weeks.  I've done two rounds with the OTC stuff but it still itches at bedtime when I haven't got anything else to distract me.  Also last week had something which seemed a whole lot like at UTI.  Did the cranberry juice guzzling bit and it seemed to go away.  Glad to know I'm not the only one on both of these.

I want to say thanks to everyone too!  It was nice to confirm my suspicions that this issue down in the lower 40 may very well be tx related. Everything sort of fits. I usually eat either a little toast with nut butter and/or some full fat organic yogurt before I dash out everyday. Haven't had yogurt in 12 days.

Also, it was fun to giggle like a school girl while reading everyone's comments and shared experiences. Thanks for the info and the laughs!

It works better when you take the Fluconazole (which stays in your system for 7 days) and use the cream at the same time.

But you may be taking care of the symptom rather than the problem.  Have them check your blood sugar.  Interferon can cause high blood sugar.....and yeast infections can be caused by high blood sugar.  They're very common on diabetics.

I opted for the 7 days smaller doses, instead of the 1 day larger dose. It's the same...

My hepatologist said that this is the medication she prescribes during tx, as it is compatible with tx.

Yes.  That is what was called in.

She said it is a one dose treatment.

That's the same I got. Diflucan is the brand name of generic fluconazole.

The nurse said it was something like "diflucam" that she is calling in.  I will post it when she does.

Thanks,

Thanks for starting this thread.  Based on the replies this is obviously an issue some of us have been dealing with and thinking we were the only ones.  Nice to know others share what I call "the wiggles"

If ya don't mind-when you get your rx, will you post the name of it.

Thanks again.  Hope ya get to feeling better real soon =)

My doctor prescribed a 7 day cure of candida treatment drug fluconazol (100mg per day) and it cleared up within a few days.

It is better to get a swab done, to find out exactly what kind it is. Candida or another infection.

If you've been using the OTC products...I still think it's time to ask a doc - we can guess from here but it's impossible to know, better safe than sorry.

sunqueen,

you are so right!

Fighting this tx alone, is hell.  Put mono in the pic, then pneumonia, anemia, the horrible itching rash, and now THIS!!!!  Enough is enough already......

Why does everything having to do with us women end up THERE.....

Thank God someone asked!  I have a box of one day treatment and a box of seven day treatment. Yesterday I started to use one of them but worried that I should ask my doctor first and put them away. It was a rough weekend between scratching the nether land and fighting sore throat/flaming sinuses.

You sparked a memory from my experience with treatment: When we get it in our girl spot it's called a yeast infection, when orally it's like what babies get - Thrush,  Treatment does throw our ph off and many of us do have the same problems. It's bad enough when it feels as if every inch of your skin itches, much less what you are experiencing! So Yes, go see the doc - if it is yeast, they have a one pill product (that's all one takes, 1 pill) and it will balance any other areas that may be off it's ph.Hopefully that's all it is,
Let us know how things go for you,
