Food that is liver friendly

I have read meat is not good for the liver, does anyone have a great liver diet. Is vegetarian diet enough to help heal? and what about vitamin suplements? some are bad in pill form, anyone have this down?

Since you have cirrhosis, I'd advise a mutli-vitamin without iron.
I used food based vitamins.
I read all labels and avoid artificial ingredients in anything.
You might also want to watch for salt content. Again, read labels.

Get your vitamin D levels checked. You may need to take D.

Red meat is not advised for those with advanced cirrhosis as it can contribute to encephalopathy.

Your liver is a filter. To help a diseased liver, eat food that is as organically raised as possible. This means your liver doesn't have to filter out herbicides, pesticides, additives, preservatives, etc.

Think fresh and freshly prepared.

Avoid processed food. Read labels.

You do need protein. It is not necessary to go completely vegetarian. You can eat eggs, fish ( watch out for mercury poisoning)  and organic chicken. Tofu is good for protein and helps albumin levels as well as egg whites.

Artichokes and beets are two veggies known to be good the liver.

One more comment, since the liver filters everything, avoid noxious fumes too. This is not the time to spray paint that old bike. Or if you do, wear a mask.

I might think of more later~
Good luck.

The only time I worried about water when I was cirrhotic was while living in the country where there was a lot of iron in the ground. Avoid iron with cirrhosis.
My hepatolgoist said too much iron by itself can cause cirrhosis.

Just go with as pure and clean as possible.

A couple more thoughts, try doing a search on coffee and turmeric.
Drinking 3+ cups of coffee daily is supposed to slow replication of the virus
Curcumin the active ingredient in turmeric also is supposed to be protective of the liver

OH made some good points

"Is vegetarian diet enough to help heal?"
Nothing is going to heal your liver while you have hepatitis C. The virus is multiplying over a billion times a day. Every time it multiplies it damages the liver more. That is the point of treatment. To stop the ongoing damage caused by hepatitis C. So focus on curing your hepatitis C. That is the best thing you can do for your liver. All else pales in comparison.

If you want more accurate information to your questions please post your biopsy report and lab results before treatment and current labs. Cirrhosis covers a wide range of illness. From people that have no abnormal blood level and feel fine to someone who only has hours to live.

Thanks!

Good luck.
