Foods

What type of foods should be eaten to protect the liver?  What do you think about trial clinics?

I'm on shot 6 of 24. The sides come and go and some of them get my undivided attention. What gets me through the day is to smoke a little good pot. The sides just seem to melt away. It certainly changes my whole outlook and I get much more optimistic about soldiering through all of this.

yep, I'm a native Florida boy, one of a dying bread left here in Cuba, I mean Miami.. Love to fish!! I am the Snook king!!!
Little advice, and I'm shocked nobody else saw this and told you, but DO NOT take vitamins with Iron.. It is hard for liver to process, and also been shown to HELP the virus replicate.. Definate NO_NO!!
Take antioxidants, like C and E.. And a multiple w/o Iron.. My Dr recommended me stopping all vitamins on treatment, as I was taking alot.. I got my VL to 4000, and my ALT's to 62.. And i have had this disease for 27 years.. Tylenol you will here different opinions, but the two Dr's I have seen, say to take them. I use them for fevers, and headaches..
Any questions, just ask...

shoulda known by the "snook" yes we are on the gulf in Florida. I live on a canal near BayPort, love to fish, and motorcycles. Originally from Ohio and have been here 5 years. The hurricanes ruined the fishing for the summer so were just getting back out. You close to the Gulf?
Anyone ever have a nose bleed, I did this morning and the doc didn't seem to concerned but he said he wanted a cbc and tsh every couple of weeks for awhile. My viral load was 3.3 million, he said it is easier to treat below 3 so that's not too bad I guess. I also inquired about tylenol use and they said it is only bad for the liver if used in excess and with alcohol. I also inquired about the vitamins I take with iron and he said it was ok. He asked why I took the ones with iron and I said that's what you get when you buy the one's for women (one a day). The nurse practitioner also said the pain I had was common and that all kinds of weird stuff can happen because everyone reacts differently.
Thanks all

Cuteus, let me just say, "Hell Yeah!!!!!".. Way to go.. I wish you the best, and a quick return to the norm!! No moon huh?? You couldn't even howl or anything!!

Newco..
Congrats on getting started. I did shot 3 on friday, and its seems to be getting better. You said out in the Gulf, you in Florida too?? As far as the pain, I had the same severe pain everywhere day or two after first shot, but then it went away.. Now, I just get occassional joint pain, but nothing bad.. Feel pretty good actually. Drink lots and lots of water. My Dr told me tylenol, Alleve, tylenol flu, for symptoms.. Also Benydryl, and Zyrtec.. Hope your first week is a breeze, and it will get better.

Cuteus, yahoo!  Congratulations on finishing.  I guess the week of riba after the last shot is needed when you do the 48 week standard sentence, but you went way beyond.  Well done, friend.
Ral, pls. e-mail.
Had to come back here to say that to the two of you. MN

Way to go, girlfriend:)  I feel so very happy for you that you have finished!  You will be ready and primed for a great NY's eve celebration: 2005 is going to be your year..  you will be healthy, happy and very, very wise (especially after completing and surviving HCV diagnosis and tx).

Question though:  How come people ending tx seem to have so many left over meds?  I can see a couple of pills here and there but surely not days worth?

maj neni; read newco's post, your input will always be needed by those who stick it out with the forum, in spite of the clash of the titans. please consider those just beginning that will benefit from the vast  collective experiences our  forum offers.  the good here outweighs the spats.

Newco;  you just learned a valuable lesson; this forum. with the arrays of personalities and experiences will be your best asset during your illness and recovery, if you can overlook the sporadic spats. most get resolved without Med Help intervention.

Amerabrit if you were trying to moisten my eyes, you succedeed. Ty for your levelheadness when I was looking for mine.  If my plans for Boston pan out in the spring, maybe I will swing by upstate?

we need an east coast convention, it would be easier...

maj;;;;;consider the good over the bad.
be well

It's really heartwarming to hear that you went out to do it in the moonlight, saying good-bye to the shots is awesome. It makes me feel confident to hear that others that are 1's are getting cured. Some of the posts make cry when others shock me, I had debated on coming back due to the hassle I was reading attacking religion, politics and personal attacks. But I decided that there are others with good hearts, so I have decided to ignore the **** and go on with my tx and with hopes that I can become friends with those that really care to help. And I am hoping that I can learn to help others as well.
Congratulations (WhooHoo!) on making it through your tx. treat yourself with a gift, you deserve it.

just shot #72 full dose of pegasys, if blood work looks good next week, I will finish a couple of more at half dose, no riba, for good measure.
I did not find anything maniacal to do tonite, so I decided to go outside, and shoot the last one by the moonlight, but there was no moon. so i lifted the syringe to the skies as an offering to SVR.  all this on a full stomach from The Olive Garden.  Now we wait...
I found out something new on Friday.  I called the NP fo clarify the riba thing, whether to take if for a week or not, and she said to take the last of the full riba dose with my evening shot. No more. Interesting how other practices ask that you take it for a week following the shot...
She had misunderstood my first question and proceded to tell me that the hospital will accept unopened bottles of leftover meds.
so those of you with leftovers, ask the local research facility if they will take it; those of you in need of help with meds to complete tx, check with your local research facility for possible assistance.  Just keep in mind that this seem to be ongoing, and legal, in many practices.
ASK if yours offers this service.

Ral, good luck, you are next, I believe?

Judi, I will email you soon.

Low protein is only necessary if you have cirrhosis.

Since the liver processes toxins, it's best to have foods that don't contain them. That means organic produce, no preservatives, artifical colors, flavors, sweeteners, etc. Foods that aren't processed are usually the best, although if you read the labels carefully there are some processed foods out there that contain healthy ingredients.

No alcohol of course.

I have been sustained by Vicoprofen for the last few years. It has been the most effective pain med for me. none of the NSAIDS or tylenol work well for me. without this med, I might have quit tx a while back

Hi today,
I went out last night after my first shot and took my first dose and felt pretty good, drank pepsi and danced. I thought this is going to be a breeze :) Took my second dose of Copegus this morning and got ready to head out to the Gulf to fish, wrong. I felt like I got hit by a truck. Pain in my bones from my waist down and had trouble walking and some fever. So that ended the fishing trip (the guys went out instead) me and my sis stayed home and I took some tylenol and napped for awhile. I felt a lot better after I got up. (my sis has cancer so her and I look out for each other)
Also, I was wondering outside of tylenol what else can be used for pain? I thought tylenol was bad for the liver. I usually take aspirin. I really don't know yet what drugs can or can't be taken with this treatment, I don't recall reading anything about drug interactions.
Newco :)

Eat low protien, high fresh fruits and veggies. My nutritionist says 2 helpings of fat a day (2 Tblsp. butter or marg.)No more than 2 2oz. helpings of meat. 1 egg or 1/2 cup milk. It's better to get your protien from cheese or milk tho, than meat. Take a b-complex vitamin daily and a 1 a day vitamin w/out iron (for Seniors). I have no experience w/ milk thistle, but others will be along later that do. Good luck.
