I am glad you are doing better! I had all kinds of problems like that when I started and fiber took care of me. I try to avoid any extra medication (I take more stuff than I have ever taken in my life but no complaints!) I have kept it up (the fiber) and resolved that stuff. I am sorry I didn't respond when it first happened to you. I don't know why but sometimes I don't see a post until much later. I may have been struggling too when you first posted. Hang tough!

Thanks everyone. I am now in the middle of week 5 and are much better than they were when I posted. I guess you guys were right. Takes time for your body to adjust. I just had a bit of a panic attack because let time I did the tx in 2001 I was almost entirely house bound towards the end for these kinds of issues. Not so bad now!
IMODIUM!!! Someone suggested I stock up on it before starting the Victrellis trail last year. It really helps. No more than once a day on really bad days. (You don't want it to stop you up)
Good Luck, -Libby
Glad you are feeling better. I have found that I simply cannot drink coffee at all. Drink lots of water and do try to find a way to incorporate fiber into your diet. My first week and half were a nightmare because of bathroom issues. I think my body was adjusting not only to the meds but also the high fat diet. Today is the first day of my 3rd week and although things certainly aren't "normal" in the bathroom, they are much improved.
Until you get your bowls under control,I would stay away from stimulants altogether.Enen though coffee is good for your liver it can cause kidney problems while on Incevik.Check in at the Vertex nurse help line or tell your Doc if this condition continues.
Thanks everyone. Waited a few more hours and things calmed down. Sorry for the freakout - I hate this stuff!
please be cautious taking medical advice from laymen. taking immodium and increasing fiber should not be done unless your gastro doc concurs. with all due respect to the folks helping each other here i encourage u to always use caution when adding or taking away meds with out speaking to doc. the brat diet is good so are macaroons! none of these will hurt u. best, babs 824
Nice to know that a lot of my comrades are hanging out in the bathroom today. Ya'll make me laugh.
Debra
Likewise this morning.....changed to a different coffee this morning than the usual dark roast I make. The label said "smooth as silk"....I wish I'd known it was referring to what it would do to my insides rather than the taste of the coffee. I keep running to the bathroom. I'm not going to be able to head out myself until my breakfast stops coming out in a steady stream....sigh.
rm....there's a good chance it's not the Incivek but just the same, it's frustrating. Hope this settles for you soon.
I agree with the others. Not everything is related to Hep C or to its treatment. I had a terrible bout of diarrhea last night and I know just what did it! Sugarless candy that I had mindlessly eaten. My diabetes meds sometimes, seemingly randomly, sends my bowels into an uproar. It could be a lot of things.
My diet hasn't changed drastically, but some of the foods I liked and tolerated well before, I don't some much now. I have made it a habit to eat a high fat yogurt with natural cultures in the morning and evening with the riba. It also seems to help keep things regular and my stomach settled. I try to keep the fridge stocked, since I notice a difference when its not available. I'm not on Incevik, but Inf/riba is not easy on the stomach either.
Don't take this situation lightly. It can be caused by an infection in your intestinal track and sometimes antibiotics and other meds can cause it. The important thing is to avoid dehydration. Water is good but you need the electrolytes too so drink juices or gatorade. I understand about being anxious for replies - when it is you going through an excruciating symptom or sx, every minute seems interminable and sometimes patience just isn't an attainable virtue and really a word of encouragement or empathy helps more than anything. Hope you feel better.
Thanks everyone - didn't want to be so in-patient, but was feeling a bit desperate - not my usual MO. I did call the Incevik help line. If I had a dime for every time I was told by first round treatment Doc that what ever symptom I was having was not a result of the meds, I would be a very wealthy woman. Needless to say - the Incevik help desk said that was not a sympton of their medication, and I should contact my Dr. I sent an email and am waiting to hear back.
Apologies again, and go out and enjoy the weekend!!
call the vertex hot line. there are nurses on duty 24/7
i would check with vertex and a well informed pharmacist and your dr for the answers you seek
roostermom,
How about a little patience, it's the weekend and people are doing other things rather than hanging out on a hepc board ok? Incivek is associated with gastro problems. If you're having diarrhea, take some Imodium. If you mean your stools are hard like rabbit turds, get a Fleet Enema, clean yourself out and eat more fiber. Milk products such as high fat yogurt and ice cream may also to help loosen the bowels if you are experiencing constipation. Or you can call your doctor or the Vertex hotline.

Weekends can be a little slow around here, particularly on a gorgeous summer day. People do tend to answer when they can, so lack of response is more due to natural causes than lack of compassion. I don't have anything to offer you on this one, it's outside of my experience and I don't recall what works for people. When I had diarrhea issues, I resorted to rm's suggestion of dealing with it the same way I would normal diarrhea. Sorry this is happening to you.....however, I have to say you should be somewhat prepared that this will not be the first gorgeous day you end up spending inside due to various side effects. Good luck with this.
Trish
Oohhh....so sorry to hear this. I am responding only so that you don't feel like no one is "out there" I am here, but can't offer any input as I have no knowlege of this. I have not yet started tx.
I hope someone responds soon with some suggestions!
I just did SOC... before the good stuff came out, but I remember lots of trips to the bathroom in the beginning. Your body is trying desperately to regulate itself with this onslaught of new chemicals. I gave up lots of days being in the great outdoors. It's just the price you are going to have to pay.
Remember to drink plenty of water.
BTW... weekends tend to be a little slower here.
Diane
Sorry for the double post. I'm on my iPhone which does what it wants
I don't know if it will help but you might try the old BART remedy- bananas, applesauce, rice and tea. Good luck. That pretty much sux as a sx. Also, replace your fluids and electrolytes

Come on folks. Perhaps I wasn't clear in how much I need some help on this issue. Since my post was written, which no one responded to, have been in and out of the BR 6 or 7 times. Could really use some suggestions here, or I am trapped in this house all day and it is gorgeous in NY today.
