The trade off for having 'easy-to-cure' (except when it isn't) genotype 3 HCV is that you're more prone to fatty infiltration of the liver, AKA steatosis or NAFLD. I only learned about this one year after tx when my gastro ordered a follow up ultrasound. A second ultrasound at four years post-tx also showed fatty liver, but couldn't tell whether it had gotten better, worsened, or stayed the same. That was 5 years ago, and I was actually contemplating an MRI or CT scan to try and determine if there was progression of the condition. Gastro was amenable to CT scan with contrast but I declined when I learned how much radiation exposure was involved and settled for the sonogram, since the main purpose of all this monitoring is to check for HCC and ultrasound works just fine for that.
Lo and behold, no more fatty liver.
The point of all this being, if you're a geno 3 with fatty liver, it may take a while to resolve post-tx.
Y'all have a great holiday weekend. For those of you on tx or post-tx, hang in there, it gets better.
