Thank you for your response. I will do as you suggested a start a "thread". I don't know what it is but I 'll find out. I'll start w/checking under "display thread", makes sense. I gotta toughen up quickly.

Genotype 2's enjoy the prospect of shorter treatment duration (24 weeks vs. 48 weeks), and a greater chance of eradicating the virus.

Welcome to this site where you will find lots of answers to your questions, and plenty of support. You might want to start a new thread to introduce yourself and get a better response in terms of support.

It's appropriate to be upset when you first learn of your diagnosis, but at some point you need to muster up the courage and determination to educate yourself and make the necessary treatment choices.

I'm sorry you're also dealing with PTSD and relationship problems. Maybe this is just the test your relationship needs to test its strength...

Take care, and do whatever you must to ensure your health and happiness!

Hi, my name is Donna. I can't imagine not having any idea how I got infected. I don't drink, smoke or drugs, but did along time ago.) I don't have symptoms & am lucky. I am having a hard time getting past the DX. I have PTSD which was under control. This Hep C has thrown me into whirl wind. My behavior is having a negative impact on my relationship w/the man I was going to marry. He's seem to think I shouldn't be upset and is getting quite frustrated w/me. I got a letter in from my insurance comp. dening life insurance. That is how I found out. Last Monday I went to my PCP and had labs done which confirmed my DX. I see a gastro doc. on 9/28. I like this sight. I have also been in Hep Palace Chat Room, but have mixed feelings about it. Thank for responding to me. I need the support. What does it mean when you have genotype 2?

Hi,
Welcome to the board. I was diagnosed with hcv, genotype 2, a couple of months ago and the doc says it's been in my system for at least 20 years. No symptoms, just high ALT levels that indicated a need to search for a cause. No risk factors either, other than a fair amount of surgery prior to 1992, dental work, accupuncture, haircuts, or possibly cuts on shared equipment at work, plus hanging out with a lot of druggies in the 60s and 70s, although I only smoked weed in those days (still would today, but doc advises me not to). Who knows. In any event, this is an adventure, to say the least. You have found the best forum on the Internet, with the best people. Keep us posted, and keep well.

--> "And that genotype 3's, are usually also inflicted with fatty liver.."

Yep! I am 3a and I have mild stetosis. I lacerated my liver in a car wreck when i was 21 and the mild fatty liver accentuates the scarring. I can feel it about 3 inches south of my breastbone! :D Commonly refered to as "MY LUMP"

So I got a total BONUS!!!! WEEEE!!!

I have had this for max 15 years, probably 6-7 and I drank heavily. I am stage 1 grade 1 and 34 years old. (spring chicken)

I would agree with anise cause in the end the beast is defeated.

Interestingly enough, I was drawn to Revelations 12 this past week which talks about the fall of Satan from heaven. Several times within that chapter it refers to the Devil as the red dragon. I took particular note of verse 11 which states in the Amplified version of the Bible: "And they have overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance of their testimony, for they did not love and cling to life even when faced with death [holding their lives cheap till they had to die for their witnessing]."

I reflected upon how true it is for me that as faced with the truth of my own mortality while combating this disease that I have re-evaluated my placement of my priorities. How little I now value the physical possesions of this earth and place more value upon relationships and helping others.

Sounds like Rev. 12:11 has a possible alternative tx than Peg/Riba alone to slay the dragon.

Woman "usually" progress slower than men..That is fact..

So that explains why I'm usually back up and watching Sports Center with a bowl of ice cream while she's still staring at the ceiling waiting for the fireworks to start?

I do wish you lots of luck. I was thrilled to be clear 4 weeks post but never let my guard down--no early celebrations for me. Being clear at 12 weeks feels really good. But I know I won't really believe it until 24 weeks.

The odds are totally in your favor--being an EVR and clear at 4 weeks post. Easy for me to say--but don't worry too much, you're lookin' good.

Take care, Algie

I am a 2b, had the virus since around 1994, a year or so ago my bx showed 1/0, and in june, my ALT was 151 AST was 96, VL 1,099,300. Was beginning to feel ill effects from Hep C, so Dr. began tx on 8/03. I do not know how I am progressing though (no VL till 12th week), but I do know that my ALT is WAY better at 94 and AST at 54. All the CBC's have showed a slight drop in #'s but nothing to be concerned about as of yet. Neutropenia could become a problem a little later as in the beginning I was 5.9 and now at 2.6...(only been on tx 4-5 weeks, did 5th shot thursday).

WHAT??? They only treat 2's once??? What about when they don't clear etc.??? They wont do it again?? There are too many relapsers not to treat again for 48wks!!! This is scring me!!!!

I think that it's rockhammer who is a 2 and on second treatment after relapse. Rockhammer has a few weeks left to go on second round.

I am a genotype 2b. Had the virus, I am guessing, for about 27-28 years. DX 6 years ago, and was treating with Chinese herbs. My Alt/Ast and all the blood work had always been normal. Did blood work last year and the Alt/Ast went up to 150/90 so had my first biopsy last sept. 2005. BX showed stage 2, grade 2. Finished treatment 6 weeks ago. First PCR at 6 weeks showed UND. Had second PCR at 24 weeks showed UND. I will have my post 3 month PCR at the end of OCT.

Tulsatime, so they are letting you treat again? My NP says that they don't treat 2's a second time?????

Has any 2's repeated treatment and cleared?

Woman "usually" progress slower than men..That is fact.. Estrogen, protects the liver, so post menopause, progression may accelerate.
As far as genotypes, I have always heard that geno type 2and 3 progress FASTER, but are easier to treat.. And that genotype 3's, are usually also inflicted with fatty liver..

Hi everyone, geno 2, 25yrs, stage 4. Alt/Ast 50/38 most of the time. Until I did treatment they seem to go up. Don't know what they are now. About the 3 progressing faster. I have not heard that. I have told this story before but will repeat it. My friend has geno 1 I have geno 2 we both have had it about the same yrs. I stopped using drugs 20 yrs ago and she continued even today. We both drank on weekends or socially until DX. I stopped she still drinks some. I have cirrhosis she has stage 2. So it is hard to know who will progress and who will not. I did all I could to help myself but still ended up with cirrhosis. The key is early DX. Wish I had known sooner.
I am on week 2 of second TX. Take Care everyone,Debi

GT 3a and f
Had virus about 32 years. 2 reads of same BX. One said Stage 1, one said stage 2. Moderate steatosis.
ALT, AST within normal range until past year or two and then only barely out of normal range. 12 weeks after TX AST 14, ALT 13.

I treated for 24 weeks. Standard dosing for 3s (but I'm small so riba dosing was high for me). Starting VL 16.5 million. Undetectable during TX at 4 and 24 weeks, after TX at 4 and 12 weeks.
