Gold Bond - Thanks to whoever suggested this

I'm 5 weeks into Prove 3 and have had a lot of issues with itching.  No presentation of rash, just itch.

My doc determined it's not the dreaded VX950 rash (at least not yet and after seeing the photos posted I hope I never see that rash).  He put me on anit-histomines that really helped.

We believe that it's the Ribaviren reacting to the sun.  I now wear sunblock and long sleeves if possible.

Yesterday someone posted that they used Gold Bond anti-itch ointment available over the counter.  Who do I owe the thank you to?  I bought a tube last night and it has really curbed the itching.

Thanks for your advice!

Other than the INF mental drag and RBV anmemia feeling I've been doing pretty well.  I'm drinking over a gallon of water daily and have not had the first headache.  Sleeping well due to Ambiem CR.  Managing to keep a high  level of work activity in the meanwhile.

I'm not naive though and realize this therapy can change in any given day.

That's WHY I use the gold cap version. It adds to the fantasy.

LOL Mike the green one has menthol in it so it cools your skin but it DOES smell like little old ladies so you might have been better off just getting the regular one and finding out that worked just as well!

I couldn't find anything else that cleared up my rash - it is the consistency - it's not watery I think.  I put it on several times a day and my ribarash went bye bye. Man THAT was so AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  :)

I am SO GLAD it worked for you it doesn't work for everyone - but it has for almost everyone.  So you're one of the lucky ones!

Gold Bond seems to work very well for many here, especially for "itch". "Rash" can be a different story, and all rashes may not respond to it, in fact some of the ingredients in Gold Bond (menthol) may make the rash worse. Bottom line is that if something doesn't work (or makes things worse) switch, and if you feel the itch or rash is serious, definitely show and discuss with your doctor. Often a akin specialist (dermatologist) will be needed for a more definitive diagnosis and a resulting treatment plan.

Nygirl has long been the high priestess and grand poobah of Gold Bond Triple Strength Green Cap ointment. May she rule forever in our hearts.
It has helped many people on this board.

NY Girl....there's different types of Gold Bond?  The stuff I bought was in a yellow, white and red tube.  Just the same thanks for the relief and I'll keep putting it on.

Rose Darling - My wife took me to see Steely Dan when they toured about 7-8 years ago.  They were fabulous.

Hello to my fellow Steely Dan fan.  The gold bond is good, but as nygirl7 says, consistency is key.  Aveeno also makes a new one, very effective, in the first aid aisle- I think it has calamine in it.  Depends which smell you want to deal with! Rather medicinal for both of them.

I guess I never did try the Gold Bond but during my tx,,,stuck with aveeno products and used it also in my bath and it did help.  Some swear that vaseline immediately after a shower when skin is still damp,,,works wonders!  Never tried that,,,seemed messy! lol

Yes, Gold Bond is a great thing for hepc tx.  Like Nygirl said, do not stop using it even if things clear up.  I put it on everyday of tx and still apply it today at 6 months post.  The best stuff I have ever used.

THANK YOU NYGIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And, I am sure I speak for many here about your find of Gold Bond.

Enjoy the weekend.

Mike

The reason I found this stuff in the first place was that I was itching SO Bad I was going CRAZY...and for Christmas my daughter went out and got every single anti-itch product they sold at CVS and put them in a basket as a present.

I tried them ALL (believe me) and it wasn't until I got to the Gold Bond then after three days the rashes were almost ALL GONE.

Of course I made the mistake of stopping...thinking it was all 'cured' and then the rash came right back.

So make sure you don't make the same mistake!

I'm glad it worked - it's helped so many people in here I often think we should do a commercial for it!

LOL can you just imagine that?
