“ HCV RNA: This test measures the number of viral RNA (genetic material from the hepatitis virus) particles in your blood, also called the “viral load.” The RNA test is almost 100% accurate and can detect an infection within a couple of weeks after exposure.”

If you did the PCR test and it was negative you did not need to have the antibody test at 12 weeks.

The normal process would be to have the antibody test at 12 weeks to screen for possible infection then if that test was positive the HCV RNA by PCR test would be preformed to determine if you are actually infected.

The HCV RNA by PCR test is conclusive after a few days post exposure. It is normally performed second as it is a more expensive test and not needed if the antibody test is negative 12 weeks post exposure.

If you are concerned about contracting illness perhaps you should consider not having unprotected sex in the future. Hep C is the least concerning illness you could contract
