Just wondering, are you female? If so, just having an ovarian cyst during ovulation can make the AFP climb a little. I was told that those with certain kinds of cancer have double to triple your number. The AFP can be affected by many things including being slightly dehydrated, hormonal shifts, and more. I hope this helps ease your worry a bit.
My AFP fluctuates between 15-22 normally ever since my diagnosis, it's never been normal in the last 5 yrs. As long as you follow through with the appropriate imaging tests (ultrasound, CT, MRI--I've had them all) & nothing abnormal shows up, you should be okay!
AFP is not the greatest marker for liver cancer. Many times it is not elevated and the person does have HCC. Having hepatitis itself can raise the AFP. Your doctor should order imaging to be sure but I wouldn't worry too much. I've heard of patients with a much higher AFP and they are fine.
