Hi, My advice is to not only ask your Hepatologist, but contact the manufacturer(s) of the meds you will be taking. I find emails are best because you can have a paper trail... I am in a clinical trial, and contacted the manufacturer concerning my Rx meds on the few OTC things I take. In my case, they objected to none, I even consulted them before getting a flu shot. They were quite helpful and got back to me right away. That, at leat, is my experience with this matter.  Good Luck   mac790

My doc and coordinator said NO. I think prescription meds from your doc are okay, but no OTCs.  They are frowned upon when on experimental meds.  Please check with your doc.

Best and good luck! Dbz

Thanks to everyone.  @Dee , no offense taken. Yes that will be my treatment. I just assumed my gastro doc knew best.. i did read eveyones response that i shouldn't have to do the interferon so i looked it up and the CDC website has that is the recommended treatment for genotype 1 of a person whom has never treated.  However, i am going to talk to my doc more about it... thank you...

I keep spelling Olysio wrong, not sure why I can't keep it straight, 8 years with all these new meds is overwhelming I guess.  Here is the post.

Hi I saw in another post where you are going to start with

Interferon,Riba and Sovaldi.

Lurknlearn said in the same post that you should check out treating with sovaldi/olysio (sp?)

Not sure you saw her response, it was back in August.

Are you seeing a hepatologist?  Did you have biopsy or know that you have a lot of damage?

I am sorry, I am sure I am putting my foot in my mouth but I have seen others on here, much smarter than I, say that people don't need to use interferon any more.
I'll try to find the post where you mentioned what you were taking.
If I have said anything offensive, I am just trying to help.

That is a good one, made me laugh, and so true.  I think it is a great idea to have the melatonin on hand but you may never need it.

Melatonin is naturally produced in the body and has no adverse affects while on Tx.
After a month or 2 on Tx, you will be asking us how to stay awake!
Be well

Don't know what med protocol you will be taking so that will affect the answer.

I am on Sol/Riba - take the Sol & 3 Riba 8:00 am and 3 Riba 8:00pm.  I have always been able to sleep anywhere, anytime.  The ONLY change I noticed is that I am generally not able to nap in the daytime now, but sleep lika a baby at night (except for the potty calls).
Drink lots of water, before, during and after treatment, 1 oz water per lb up to 1/2 your body weight.  That should help. Exercise - even just a walk around the yard, house, apt, block, etc as you can tolerate, more if possible.  You may be worrying over nothing.    Hope this helps.  Pat

Melatonin worked great for me and is all I needed.  I preferred that it was OTC and a naturally occurring hormone already present in the body.

Hi there, you may not have any trouble sleeping.  I was allowed to take melatonin when I treated but I was also required to let my doctor know everything I took.
The melatonin helped me, later I was given a low dose of ambien.
Good luck to you

You might want to discuss it with your doctor when you start treatment.

I never had an issue with sleeping but once I started treatment (about a decade ago) I had horrible insomnia and melatonin didn't help at that point so I needed something stronger...

Good luck in November.
