Hepatitis C from encounter with prostitute

About two weeks ago I did something I am really ashamed of. I went to a brothel and performed unprotected cunilingus and anilingus on a prostitute (everything else involved a condom and was safe).

I am now worried that I might have contracted hep c from performing anilingus. She was not bleeding and my teeth are healthy. However, after the sex I was worried and so used mouthwash and then flossed my teeth (I now know that flossing was a bad idea).

I rang the sexual health clinic and told the nurse my story and that I wanted to get tested, but she told me I it was very low risk and that she won't test me because the clinic only has resources for high risk cases. I was told to simply get an STD test from my GP.

I have been told that because of the "window period" I should hold off for now and then get a hep c antibody test 3-4 months after exposure. Would this be enough or should I do something else?

So, you are saying that Hep C has a very low chance of being contracted from Vaginal fluids in the mouth?

I was reading what you did.

I don’t think you have to worry about Hep C. You can get another serious disease though; it is called H.A.G.S. it is the combination of Herpes, Aids, Gonerea, and syphilis hitting you all at one time. You better hope you don’t catch it; there is only one cure... That is DAY OLD PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I imagine that either end of the prostitute could be construed/utilized as the happy end. Different strokes for different folks (or ends, as the case may be).

So the happy end belongs to the prostitute and not the original poster after all.

I’m glad to hear that everything turned out well for you health wise but we are not allowed to discuss Religion on this forum so I can’t tell you that you are going to burn in hell and spend eternity with weeping and wailing, gnashing of teeth where the worm dieth not.

What does not having sex before you get married have to do with being a Christian ?

Don't let the guilt get to you to bad, just stop seeing hookers.  Nothing wrong with having sexual relationships as an adult.  Just wrap it before you tap it.

Dear All

Let me tell you what happened. After this visit to the prostitute I immediately practiced sexual abstinence and waited for three months. These three months were very difficult as my mind often kept drifting into thoughts of whether I have an STD or not. Thankfully I went on a holiday during this time, which helped me forget about the issue.

Because of embarrassment, I didn't want to go to my normal GP and instead search the internet and tried to find another GP, specifically one that had a history in STD and sexual health. The first two medical clinics I rang had rude people who seemed to be frustrated probably because they had too many patients and did not want to have anymore. I decided to go for a more expensive medical clinic with private doctors and found that the service was considerably better.

I told the doctor what I had done and asked for a full STD check, including tests for HIV; hepatitis A, B, and C; gonorrhea, and syphilis. I got the results and was negative for everything!

I know my risk was low--people on this forum, nurses, and doctors all told me that--but I just felt worried nevertheless. Maybe I am just a pessimistic person by nature.

I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for taking time to give advice. I have developed a great understanding of what it is like to live with HIV or HCV and I feel so grateful that I thrown cash at various charities and feel like it is suddenly my duty to help those who have chronic STDs.

I was told that whenever I have sex I should use condoms or dental dam, but I am going to try to continue being sexually abstinent. It is very difficult but I am trying my hardest. I am opting for sexual abstinence because I am a Christian, and I need to try not to have sex before marriage.

I see you're from Australia and I know that prostitution is legal in certain areas.  I would think that if the brothel was a legal, regulated business, part of their policy would be first, to make sure their employees were instructed on safe sex practices.  Second, that employees would have to be subject to frequent medical testing for STDs, HCV, etc.  If the brothel is flying under the radar, then that is a totally different story.

Along with your condoms, maybe a supply of dental dams would the next order of business...

For sure Goof.  I'm sure there's also a chapter in your guide that says:  "Don't put that in your mouth, you don't know where it's been!!!

"you can do yourself and all of your future partners a favor by learning about safe/safer sex."

I think Chapter One in that handbook is the same as Chapter One in the Layman's Guide to Higher Self Esteem: "Don't go sticking your tongue up a hookers bung hole."

All of the advice from the nurse seems to be correct to me and wait to get tested for antibody response. (A positive antibody test only indicates that you were exposed to the virus, not that you have it. There is another test for that). I wouldn't worry, your chances of getting hepatitis c are very low.

You are more likely to have gotten a STD, bacterial infection then hepatitis C (which is not commonly spread through sexual acts). If it is sex acts that involve the possible exchange of blood, that is another matter.

To turn your guilt, (I'm not exactly sure what you feel guilty about) into something positive, you can do yourself and all of your future partners a favor by learning about safe/safer sex. There is plenty of good info online. In the future use a dental dam if you if you are going to be performing oral sex on any "stranger" especially "high-risk strangers" then you don't have to worry. For instructions on use look online.

Good luck.

Why is it that your worried about contracting hepc but no other infectious disease?  The nurse it correct, low to nill chance.  If you have concerns, go to private doctor and get tested 3-6 months after exposure for antibodies or 2-3 weeks with RNA PCR.

Hepc is transmitted by blood to blood contact only.  No blood, no risk unless you have one lean and mean tongue.
