Hepatitis Symptoms?

About 14 weeks ago, I performed unprotected oral sex (male to female) on a commercial sex worker.  My symptoms have been of on an off hard and soft stool, ear aches, upper abdominal pain, and tender neck lymph glands.  Every couple of days I notice that my stool will have white pieces in them as well.  I had a 2 month hep b & c test and 3 month HIV test.  All were negative.

Here's my questions:

1)  What's the possibility of me having hep a, b, or c?
2)  Did I take the hep b and c test too early from my sex incident?  Do I need to take it at a later date for it to be conclusive?  What's the % conclusiveness after 2 months?
3)  If it is not hepatitis, what are the other possibilities?
4)  If I do have hepatitis, how long could the symptoms last?

I would really appreciate if somebody could answer.

Typical symptoms of hbv and hcv are :

fatigue
dark urine
light stool color
stomach pain
joint pain

fatigue is the most common

Sparty, if you cannot wait for six months, you could have a 'Pcr qualitative' test.  This will check for the virus, not antibody to the virus.  You will have the virus in your system for awhile before your immune system produces antibody.

the lucky people who clear Hcv from their body usually keep the antibody for a LONG time afterward, usually for life.  'Svr' means virus free but not antibody free.  Having Hcv antibody only is not a health problem but you cannot donate blood or organs, etc.

The Pcr test is expensive, probably $400 or so, but if the wait is too much, that is another option for you.

If your six month wait is only a month or so away, i would try to stay busy and not worry.  You do have a two month neg.  I would say you have rounded second base and are sliding into third.

Learn from this and remember the worry and anxiety when you are tempted again.  Everyone makes mistakes but some people don't learn from theirs.

I have a feeling you will be neg.  hope for the best.

Ya learn something every day!!!  Thanks for enlightening me.  The only time I've ever seen a condom was when someone made a water balloon out of it!!!!  There's a whole new world out there.... LOL

Well to be honest --- I'm not sure...

For a couple of years, I felt run down and no one could find what was wrong with me. My bones were aching, I was uncomfortable all the time, cramping everywhere - couldn't sleep, couldn't stay awake... like a walking zombie.

Then finally one doc got smart -- after running every possible cancer test ---- and keeping an eye on my ast alts --- which were always 'just' slightly elevated... they ran a hep panel.

OMG - it all fit in then...

But I'm just getting post TX --- so I'll let you know... I was at least 10 years HCV positive before TX. So it was a gradual slow thing.

I don't know about HepB.

So good luck - and if I were you --- I would get double checked... Some of your symptoms sound like they could be a problem... But not necessarily a Hep problem.

Meki

PS. MAUI --- they make "female" condoms... They are plastic insertable (sort of) devices... They don't work very well and they certainly desensitize all feeling.... But they do exist... or did a few years ago. LOL!

I appreciate your responses.  I think I will put my mind at ease and take the hep b & c test again at 6 months.

One last question:

What are typical symptoms of having hep b & c?

Sparty,

your three month neg test for hiv means you are home free.  A two month neg for hep b and c is very encouraging.  However, the Cdc says the window period for hep c is 2 weeks to 26 with an average of 50 days.

To put your mind at ease, have 1 more test for hep b and c at 6 months.  If neg, ( and I believe it will be) then stop worrying and testing and move on with life.

Well Uhmmm... hmmmm...

I think you might have a serious cold/flu or viral flu that is particularly strong.

However oral sex on anyone - especially a commercial worker provides a route for multiple types of diseases - hepatitis being one of them.

Still - the white pieces in your stool is questionable - I don't know what your diet is like - however, that would be bothersome enough for me to warrant a check up at the doctors - with specific information about your sexual practice and your stool sample.

HOWEVER - if you had a 2 month and 3 month test - all negative - then you might have some other issues that you might get looked at.

Answering your questions:

1) You were tested - and came out neg... So unless you practiced unsafe sex again - or had surgery, injected blood into your system... probably NOT very high.

2) I don't know that there is a conclusiveness - or a time frame - 60-90 days is average... However, once you get it - you've got it -and it should show up within 2 months...

3) You got me there - you could have liver problems --- other issues - multiple things could be causing your symptoms.

4) Depends on what type of hep that you have ----- and IF you even have Hep.

The lymph nodes being swollen and the excrement issue seem like semi serious issues that I wouldn't play around with. I'm not a doctor - but I think that if I were you - I'd schedule an appointment and ask him these questions.

Make sure you check your thyroid, diabetes and do a complete blood work up. Let him/her know your symptoms.

I feel that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Good Luck.

Meki
