How can I convince my parents to let me date someone even though they have Hep C ?

A month ago I met a girl in one of my University classes and eventually we started to hang out more and more. Long story short we started going out and are now a couple. Before we were a couple she told me she had hep C and I first I was scared, but afterwards she started explaining everything to me about how she got it from shortly after her birth because of contaminated equipment at the hospital she was born in and I did a little investigating of my own and I felt better with the situation. But my parents on the other hand don't like the idea of me going out with someone who has hep C. To the point that there telling me almost every other day that I need to start distancing myself and break up with her so I don't infected. And I honestly don't know how I can show them that I'll be fine. I know there's always going to be a risk but just not as much as they think there is. As of now I've already convinced them to go to the doctors with me so they can properly talk to a doctor about this. But I still have that fear that they'll want me to break up with her.

You are a young adult the decision of who to date is yours. You may never be able to convince your parents. They only want the best for you. Either you can convince them or you cannot but who you date is your choice whether your parents approve or not.

More importantly has your g/f looked into getting treated? There are medicines approved in the last few years that are much better than the old treatment of weekly interferon injections and other pills for 6 months that only worked about 30% of the time. The new treatments are highly effective and much better tolerated by the majority of patients.

Her treatment could be as simple as 1 pill a day for as few as 8 or 12 weeks depending on her specific medical situation and she would be cured. No future concerns of transmission to you even though the odds are low. No concerned about developing liver disease or liver cirrhosis from being infected with hep c. I strongly suggest she should inversigate getting treated for her hep c.

Best of luck to you both
