Interferon and Fever Blisters

During most of treatment I had a minor case of fever bliters in the corners of my mouth. This wasn't too bad, I put some neosporin on it and it would feel ok. Then last week which was my last week of treatment I got a doozy of a fever blister that pretty much covers my entire bottom lip and below.
It is really annoying me. Burns and itches. I didn't realize what it was at first and was putting vitamin e and or Baxatracin on it with no help. I have had it for about 7 days now. My last shot of Interferon was about 11 days ago. Today I bought some Abreva to put on it. Has anyone else had this problem and can you tell me what you did for it.

Thanks
Bobby

I also had the issues with the corners of mouth.  My GI said it's a condition known as Keratosis.  He told me to start using myconazole cream twice a day (don't laugh but  it's used for vaginal yeast infections ... o.k.... go ahead and laugh ROFL!).   I started doing this and then at night before I go to bed I use an ointment called PureLan100 (100% lanolin ointment) that a hospice nurse gave me.  It took a couple of weeks but it did clear up for me.  I stopped doing this ritual and it came right back so I continue to do it so I don't look like I have clown lips.

P.S.  Like you I tried the neosporin as well as carmex and they didn't work.

Thats how mine started. I had a couple in the corners then a few small ones under the bottom lip then they decided to go into business together. Must of signed the contracts while I was sleeping. If the Abreva doesn't start to work I will go to the Dr on Friday and see if I can get some Valtrex.

Thanks
Bobby

I have cracked and bleeding lips inthe corners since the beginning. I was given Lotrisone cream by prescription only. Works great!

I get those little ones in the corners of my mouth, usually go away fast so no big deal.  Early in tx I got a really bad one (started as a series of little ones that decided to go into business together) and my PCP gave me Valtrex.  Cleared it right up.  If you ask for it, get a couple of doses (I think its 2 pills taken 2 times) cause it has a pretty high co-pay (no generic).  My doc gave me 3 doses, says next time start the Valtrex at the first twinge.  He cross-checked it in his PDR with Peg and Riba, ok to take for mouth sores, there are some caveats if taking it for genital sores during tx.

Valtrex works well and surprisingly fast.  Good luck.

ive just finished and im was getting small bumps on my forehead and big rash spots on my neck that itch real bad at times.  i think any of this kind of stuff is normal even after you quit, at least for a while. mine calmed down today and i think is subsiding.
i figure that all those topical treatments wont help much. i expect it to be gone soon.
