Is it possible to transmit HCV ?

Is it possible for a person with HCV and (diabeties or is it diabetes) to pass HCV
to another person if they both used the same spring loaded lance to check their blood sugar?
I know it's important to look foward not backward.I recently recalled this happening and was just wondering?

Looking forward I would definitely not use the same lance, regardless if you change heads.

Hi I work at a my local hospital and like Trinity said if you use the same lancet and don't change heads each time then yes you can get HCV. If you change it out each time someone else uses it then you should be fine.

If they both used the same lancet, definitely yes.  If they both used just the lance but new lancet each time I would say highly unlikely unless blood was transferred to the the new lancet by the previous person.  My husband is a diabetic and I have used his lance to take a reading on myself just to see if my glucose was normal.  He has been tested and does not have the virus.
Anytime there is blood involved, it's always wise to use extra precautions.  I don't think I would routinely use someone elses lance who is infected with hepc.  There is a possibilty that blood can be transferred somehow.
