Itching

Hello everyone. So it has only been a couple days since I started treatment and I am itchy.  No rash but just itchy.  Also does anyone have any ideas for 20gm of fat??  Eating peanut butter early in the morning isn't going so well.

I to get itchy my back and legs mostly, no real bad but annoying, no rash or redness. As for the 20 grams I started blending a chocolate protein shake in the morning and late night with whole milk and a tablespoon of peanut butter, much easier to put down. Good luck joe

I too just started tx this past Friday (Incivek, riba, and peg).  This morning I am very itchy, no rash at all, just itchy.  My nurse told me to use baby oil.  She said to stay away from anything that contains perfume??  I did use the baby oil this morning and the itching has stopped.  I plan on taking a bath with the baby oil in it also to see if that helps.  Other than that today I do not have any other side effects, yesterday I had chills, nasuea etc....., but nothing I could not handle.

This is what I have done so far for the 20 grams of fat.  In the AM - 1/2 toasted bagel with lots of cream cheese and an 8 oz glass of WHOLE milk or a 1/2 of an energy bar with the bagel.   Mid-day -  Sausage, egg and Cheese on Toast (the sausage patty has 19 grams of fat in it - so that covered that one).  Also a slice of Pizza loaded with meat is 19 grams of fat.  PM:  I have been eating a klondike bar - which is 16-17 grams of fat depending on which kind you purchase.  I have always trained myself to eat foods low in fat, so it is kind of hard to come up with things to eat, especially at 4:30AM.  Might as well splurge while we have an appetite. lol

I agree with the caution when the itch turns into a rash, since it can happen quickly.  You can do a search on this forum for itch, rash and read plenty of suggestions on what many have tried.   Ultimately, a good dermatologist familiar with reactions to these drugs will make the biggest difference when things get bad.  Avoiding the heat, sun and sweating is a good idea, but I'm too stubborn to listen to that advice and have paid the consequences..  ;)

Best of luck as the weeks progress.

You all sound like you are doing a great job taking care of yourselves.  I just ate whatever I could get down and stay away from the tomatoes, man they make an acid situation.

I, too, am struggling with the 20 grams of fat.  I love avocados and have started eating at least one a day.  Because I hate to get up in the morning, I usually make my self a peanut butter and butter sandwich and leave it wrapped by my bed and have a glass of 2%milk.  An 8 ounce glass has 5 grams of fat.  I find when I supplement the peanut butter with butter I don't feel like I am overdosing on peanut butter.  2 ounces of cream cheese on half a bagel, sausage, bacon and pepperoni, macaroni & cheese, grilled cheese, french toast with one egg and lots of buttter, 1/2 of Hagan Daaz ice cream are other things I am trying.  I hope this helps.

So far (just into week 2) I don't have any skin issues, but I am using Aveeno moisturizer every morning as soon as I get out of the shower.

Good luck.

As someone who went through a rough time with itch that turned into rash, my advice is to be sure to not let it get out of hand. Ask your doctor if they have a dermatologist that they work with who would be familiar with the skin side effects of treatment drugs. My dermatologist kept me in the trial that I'm in when the trial doctor thought I might have to drop out. A month later and I am having minimal skin issues- mainly just sensitivity to some fabrics. I would not have made it without the aggressive treatment from the dermatologist. Good luck with treatment and always remember there is great support here.

Hi nicci - Sorry about your itching.  I found that I was very annoyed each time a new side effect appeared,  but then it just became routine as they came and went. It's just part of it.  As you go along, you MAY need help with some of the sides.

Fat- well, how about a shot of cream in your coffee, tea or hot chocolate.  I was putting a dab of heavy cream on my oatmeal and butter on the pancakes, olive oil in the eggs.

Best of luck and you will be in stride before long. : }
