Just wanted to chime in to say WELCOME....
I catch about 3 more hrs of snoozing per day.. so it is not that the zzz's aren't there, the meds just kicks my a*s and always a feeling of fatigue that was rarely ever present prior... hang in there... Libby

I'm not an early riser, I wake up in the middle of the night and get on the forum because I can't sleep! Usually, I'm able to go back to sleep, but sometimes I just have to call it a loss, and go on to work. I am definitely a night owl and would love to sleep late every day!
Hugs,
Bug
Welcome. This is the best forum for hep. C. My doctor prescribed ativan for insomnia and I take it every night with Night Rest by Source Naturals and GABA amino acids and 5HTP. That usually gives me about 5 or 6 hours sleep. Then I can nap after that and sometimes I have very vivid dreams. Now that I'm retired it's easier because I can nap in the day and I have much less stress. I'm on my 38th week of tx and only have 14 more to go. Geno type 1a, 65 years old. Take your riba at least 3 hours before going to bed. It's the riba that gives you insomnia. Best wishes to you for a good treatment and full SVR in time.
Do you live in California, or another state with medical marijuana available?
Tylenol is very liver toxic, benzo's like ambien are very addictive (plus one usually needs
higher doses as tolerance builds), and other non opiate pain killers have very toxic profiles.
I find a marijuana brownie 2 hours before bedtime gives me a good nights sleep, with few side
effects in the morning. I use a medically prescribed dose, so I can predict the amount.
The studies at UCSF have concluded that one is twice as probable to achieve full treatment
with cannabis, as with not, with the cannabis group achieving higher SVR (because of finishing
treatment).
With Hep C, it is easy to get a marijuana license, as it is a know benefit in the medical community-
If you have addictive issues with cannabis, I would not recommend it--
If not, might be something to consider.
I'm on week 9, geno 2, virus free at 4 weeks--
All levels OK so far----
Good luck

Stop drinking water 3 hrs before bed and 2 tylenol PM
you are so right about me being up late and of course you being up early, what's that all about? i can't really blame it on tx, was always a late-night person, and you i imagine, have probably always been an early bird.
flguy, i recently read or heard this distinction i never really thought much about previously as to me the words always seemed to be interchangable.
symptom is what is visable to the doctor, fever, rash, etc.
side effect is how a medication makes us feel (not visable)
My experience, even using Ambien, is that on tx nights of long, refreshing sleep are few and far between. Comes with the territory. I discoved something new a few weeks ago. I use ambien two, sometimes 3, nights a weeks. I finally connected some dots with respect to severe leg cramping (most calf and foot). It's the ambien not the tx meds. It's a listed sx of ambien. One of the ironies of tx, take a med to get some rest, wake up writhing in pain. Might help to take your pm riba a little earlier.
Thanks so much for the suggestions! I will give them a try. Did I say I was glad I found this forum? I am.
Unfortunately it's a common problem that sometimes just doesn't resolve. You might start by asking the doc to switch you from regular Ambien to AmbienCR 12 mg - it's time released and is supposed to last all night long rather than just the initial knockout that Ambien gives (but the riba seems to over ride and then the wake up at 2am is inevitable).
That's what I had to do personally.
Also as silly as it sounds sometimes I HAD to take a nap at lunchtime in the office just to make it through the day. They knew I was ill so it was no problem (I told them I was on chemo and it worked).
On Saturday and Sunday I proclaimed my "Day of Rest" and I did NOTHING but lay in bed with my remote and some snacks and watched terrible tv (I couldn't follow along with anything complicated because I'd snooze whenever I could so usually I watched B movies on the Sci-Fi channel believe it or not).
I really believe that having the day of rest is what enabled me to go all 72 weeks and working fulltime.
It got my body some of the rest that it so desperately needed from being awake all week night long.
(PS With the Ambien CR I found I could go back to sleep MUCH easier - I'd still wake up but I could knock out again without too much problem).
Good luck - remember the first month that your body is getting used to these meds is really the roughest. Be careful to monior your hemoglobin for the dread anemia - it can be the worst thing that happens during tx and you want to be ready for it because the procrit can take a few weeks to get working.
GOOD LUCK!
Rosebud answered your question well. I think it's ironic that I have been up for nearly 2 hours and it's not quite 5 am here, and we're talking about sleep deprivation. I'm sure rosebud is up in the middle of the night also.
To reiterate, take the riba earlier, take less in the pm. I use to make a hot milk steamer with honey and vanilla, sometimes that would meake me sleepy. Reading something that's not a cliff-hanger will usually relax me enough to go to sleep. You sound like you have problems staying asleep also.
This is a good website also: http://www.well.com/user/mick/insomnia/ It really has some good suggestions,

hi welcome to forum, there are others more knowledgeable, but my docs prescribed 2 riba am and 3 at pm, wasn't till end of my tx that i came across suggestion to take the higher dose (if yours is similarly balanced for example) in the am and the lower in the pm.
i have also heard the following suggestions, don't have to take 12 hours apart, take the evening dose earlier, try resting earlier with less stimulation for example late night computer or television might contribute to wakefulness,
i found stretching movements sort of like yoga - don't have to be a pro, to help bring tiredness to body, had to keep my room entirely dark as all light kept me wakeful. even with meds to help sleep sometimes wakeful still - just lying as quiet as possible, even though the brain doesn't sleep it can get a little break and the body rests. get all the rest you can when you can. as riba builds in blood almost doesn't matter how you space the pills the wakefulness is just there.
benedryl (in tyelnol pm) to help sleep commonly prescribed, some need more i took serax and a restoril on the nights that were more difficult (sometimes one of each).
good luck, medical questions, specific tx discussions here, chat playfulness other side.
