I would like to add if the cause of low hemoglobin is advanced liver disease you should avoid iron supplements.
Other ways to raise hemoglobin exist like injections of Epotin A as an example but a physician would know best how to proceed based on the patients medical condition and cause of their low hemoglobin levels.
