Low Iron

Over 3 lab test (18months) I have show hemoglobin level at 11.5 to 11.9 on a scale of ref: 13.5-17.5 g/dl.

HCV status is cured. Thanks to God and Harvoni.

I realize I still have cirrhosis from the HCV.

Does other men have low iron?
Should I take a one a day with iron like Centrum which has 8 mg?
Or, would that just be covering up a problem?

Thanks for any input.

Men and women have different levels for what is normal for them when it comes to their Hemoglobin. And yes cirrhosis can play a part in this. Before taking anything consult with your Doctor to see what he thinks and if yours is at a level for any concern. Below is a good link from mayo clinic discussing this... Best to you.

First, by my Lab measure, 11.5 - 11.9 is no so low, as Normal Range there is 12 - 16.  With that in mind, I, personally, would just keep eating a liver friendly diet, Erich in iron building nutrients.

However, by your scale that is a bit lower, so I can understand wanting to take something.  However, with cirrhosis, I would hesitate to recommend vitamins  or other supplements.  The liver friendly diet, does contribute to the health of the liver.

Is a little low on iron normal for someone with cirrhosis?

Have you asked your doctor about this?  If so what was the answer?

At any rare, good luck on finding the solution.
