GrandaB, you posted on a thread that is almost 3 years old. Also, just for your own information, milk thistle may be contraindicated in hepatitis C patients who are treating with certain of the available drugs. Some doctors feel it can block the medication and keep it from doing its job.

Nancy, have you heard of Milk Thistle? It for the Liver.
A friend had a transfusion 30 years ago, that was before bool was tested for hepetitus. He got hepetitius and Milk Thistle helped him for 30 years. We are seniors. Yo sound young...Anything is possible with God.
Praying, GrandaB

Thank you for the link.
Nowhere does it say you can live for decades with cirrhosis.

It does say, that sometimes cirrhosis does not develop into decompensated cirrhosis as quickly as was previously thought.

The key word here is sometimes, for some people, not for all.

It really is detrimental for you to be assuming and passing on false hope.
If someone decided to delay treatment when the have cirrhosis, and it develops  into decompensated cirrhosis they face death if they do not get a transplant.

Please stop and consider what effects your words can have on an uninformed person reading them.

Here is the link to one study http://www.nature.com/ajg/journal/v93/n8/full/ajg1998321a.html
But I also know of one person who was diagnosed with Hep C cirrhosis in 1994, but was a heroin addict, and didn't clean up until around 2000, got treated and cleared (SVR) in 2004, and he looks and acts very healthy now.

Your symptoms sound like many things, not cirrhosis.
See your doctor.

Perhaps you meant to say people can live for decades with hep C.
People do not live for decades with cirrhosis, years~ yes, decades~no.

If the cause of the cirrhosis is removed, and the cirrhosis is not too advanced, then the liver will regenerate.

If you did mean, 'you can live for decades with cirrhosis' then please show your source.

Oh, sorry for allthe spelling errors, but I meant, people can live for decades with cirrhosis, but if it is from the Hep C virus, yeah, you would definitely want to get it treated again. And if you do have cirrhosis, you could get a liver transplant....that's the worst case scenario, but if you are really worried, dont do any drugs, even marajuana, or they bump you to the back of the waiting list, for transplant, and you have to wait a year, so no pot right now!
But like someone up above said, your symptoms might be something else, what proof did your other doctor have, that you have Hep C, a current blood test, or those symptoms you described? It could be a different virus causing those symptoms, so try not to panic. I did the same thing when I thought Ihad cirrhosis, and I kept looking up how long I had to live, and crying alot, so I know just how youfeel,so sorry you are so worried, and hang in there!

Hmmm, usually after you clear the virus, they then give you another test 3 months after the treatment, to make sure it is still gone, and then again, 6 months, post treatment, and the last test is 12 months post treatment. I f there is no Hep C detectedin your blood, after 12 months, then I think there is a 98% chance it is gone.
Do you remember having these tests?  Last May, the FDA approved tow new drugs, Boceprivir, and Teleprivir, you can choose which one to add to Interferon and Ribavirin pills (the new drugs arein pillfor, and called protease Inhibitors) These Protease Inhibitors make cure more possible, in people who have been treated, and their virus has come back.
Too bad you have to wait a month, cant you get in on an emergency basis?  I wouldn't take any vicodin, for pain, because that is hard on the liver. Do you mean the pain in your mouth? Also, just to be safe, you should avoid foods with fat in them, and stay away from taking any over the counter medications, I got horrible muscle cramps from taking Motrin and Tylenol, when my liver was bothering me, and there wasno way I could take something like Vicodin, without vomiting and itching, and getting constipated, etc. No alcohol either, of course, and smoking is hard on the liver also.
People can live for decades with cirrhosis, but if you find out you have Hep C again, you will want to get a biopsy of your liver right away, did you have one 10 yrs ago, and do you remember whate stage liver disease you had? I never had anyof the symptoms you mentioned, when my liver got worse. Are you vomiting any blood? If you are, you should go to the Emergency Room, at your local hospital, and not wait a month, for a doctors appt, because people with cirrhosis can vomit blood, which is called "G.I. verices", and an operation can be done, to fix them- but it is very dangerous. Another bad signis if your belly feels hard, like itis full of fluid, that is called "ascites" and means that fluid has built up in other parts of your body, like your stomach, and this fluid gets easily infecte, so the hospital can drian this fluid.

You posted on a thread that is several years old.  I recommend that you start a new thread by clicking on "post a question" so that others on the forum can answer your question.  Usually Hep C and cirrhosis do not cause many physical symptoms unless your liver has been damaged to the extent that it's not functioning well.  I looked at your profile and saw that you will be seeing a liver specialist soon, so that's good.  Your liver specialist will be able to guide you in figuring out if you still have Hep C, if it relapsed after your previous treatment, and what stage of liver damage you have.  In the meantime, your symptoms of nausea, vomiting, sore mouth, and fever could very well be something else.  Don't hesitate to call your doctor or go the ER if your symptoms get worse.

I took Interferon 10 years ago and was told the virus was gone. Now this Doctor says that wasn't true. I am beginning with nausea, some vomitting, very sore mouth. I will see my liver doctor next month. I have a low fever. wondering if I'm going to live until the appointment. Does the virus stay in your body and kill you? That's kind of the story I got today. Got rx for magic mouthwash. what can i take for pain any better than vicodin. I thought my cirrhosis was bothering me. no ... my hepatitic C that doesn't show up on blood tests? I just don't get it. The great question. How long do I have to live?

http://www.shands.org/professionals/drugInfo/bulletins/1005.pdf

Its on the dangerous prescription list because the formulae varies by locale.Article helps explain whats in it though :)

The Magic Mouthwash mixture
that has been used at Shands at UF
contained lidocaine viscous as a local
anesthetic, diphenhydramine (Benadryl
®) elixir as another local anesthetic,
and nystatin suspension as an antifungal.
The most commonly used Magic
Mouthwash contains equal parts of
lidocaine viscous, diphenhydramine
elixir, and aluminum-magnesium
hydroxide (Maalox®). The antacid was
included as a protectant. This “lidobenalox”
or BMX (Benadryl-Maalox-
Xylocaine) mouthrinse is “swished and
swallowed” or “swished and spit.”
Unfortunately, there is no standard
for Magic Mouthwash. Some versions
contain nystatin to treat fungal infections
or hydrocortisone or dexamethasone
as anti-infl ammatories. Some
versions contain sucralfate instead
of aluminum-magnesium hydroxide.
There are even listed formulas that
contain antibiotics like tetracycline
or sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim
(Septra®).
Problems can arise when patients receive
a product different than what the
prescriber intended.

It's a prescription mouthwash and among other things has lidocaine in it.  I needed it 3 wks into tx and this stuff is awesome.  It doesn't heal, but provides relief from the mouth sores.  I am going into my 10th week of tx and fortunately my mouth sores have disappeared.........for now anyway.  Best of luck.
