My Dad refused blood transusion

Hi,
sorry I haven't post any comment for awhile, because of my dad's situation. Today  I have a question my dad is in his # 15 shot today. He is Geno Type 4. was Und. on 5 weeks and 12week result. but He got 2 unit blood transfusion on 02/27/06. because of his HMG now I got a phone call from his doctor office saying that he needs another blood transfusion because of his low blood count on his lab but my dad refused to take blood. what can I do?

His lab work is  HMG 10.5
White blood cell 2.8

plus he is on procrit since 02/27/06 once a week 40000.
any comment apreciate.

Thanks,
Liz

Hi,

I'm a 2B and my HGB dropped to 7.1 about 2 months ago and I had  a transfusion of 2 units.  I now have 5 weeks left of treatment and again my HGB is 7.3.  Next week I'll have another 2 units of blood, I'll do any thing to finish meds at full dose.  Tell your dad to think about it carefully, it's the only way to get rid of this bug once and for all.  What ever it takes it's worth it.

Those numbers aren't drastic really.  Is he on Procrit or Epogen? That is much easier than a transfusion. I had to be put on Epo twice a week in order for it to raise my numbers = although I was so devastated by it I would have done ANYTHING in order to get rid of the problem.  I am still on it today.

A 10.5 isn't that bad really = but if it gets under 10 hes going to have to do soemthing most likely or it will become too dangerous for him to remain on treatment.

There are folks much more knowledgeable than I am here but those numbers don't sound that bad to me at all.  Let's see what someone else has to say.  Hang in there.

Your Dad might try Procrit twice a week. Once a week did not do it for me and 2x just kept me at 10 but it at least did not go lower.

nygirl. 2x helped you, did it not?
