What type of doctor prescribes the Marinol for gastroparesis? I am at a loss. I have asked the GP, Pain Management, Gastroenterologist, etc... How is one to get help?

Thank you all for all the responses and advice. I am so sick of feeling bad. A bit better  now after a week of laying on the sofa. Doing everything I can to get my strength back up. I really am grateful to you all for allowing me this forum to express myself.

Wow, So many reponses. Thanks ya'll. I am really grateful. Now where to begin. I have had all the stomach/gastro test known to science. Took my gallbladder last summer no relief. Had endoscopy and colonoscopy. I love my doctor but he at his wits end with me too.
I am always at least slightly nauseated. I vomit at least once a day. I do pretty good with Zofran and marinol most of the time. However there are times when I am just not able to function much less work. I am constantly exhausted like I have never been in my life. My boss likes me and is trying to work with me within the company rules of course. I worry about loosing my job and with it my insurance.
I swear sometimes I wonder why I am not depressed.I do get frustrated. At this point, all I know to do is wait til I see the Hep C doctor.
Hopefully you guys won't mind if I vent and gather info and support from all of you.

Yes to your nausea question.  It was severe last year for a few months.  All I could do was lay still on the sofa or the bed for days at a time.  I was also suffering from extreme bloating and upper left stomach pain.  I didn't vomit but a few times but I sure wanted to!  I had lots of tests ran then and showed really nothing as definite cause.  I was just diagnosed with Hep C on 9/9/11 and after much research I am convinced that was the cause of my problems.  Best to you and hope you get your nausea issues resolved!

I am behind in reading these days and just read your post.  I hope you are still around to read this.  Dr. Bacon is an awesome Dr.  I hope he can help you.  We have to drive 4.5 hrs to get to his office but it is worth it , even when gas has been really high.  That is saying a lot when it comes from a family on a tight budget.  We have been going there for about 4 years now and have no regrets. They are right on top of things at that clinic.
We normally only get to see his physician assistant but she is awesome too.  I met Dr. Bacon though and I was so impressed I could hardly find my tongue.  Someone I met at another forum said she'd had the urge to ask for his autograph. :>)    Hope you too will be a fan of Dr. Bacon.  :>)
Blessings,
Ev

I had a lot of problems about 12 years ago.  I did not know then i had hep c, if I did.  Just diagnosed last year.  When i was having the problems, my doc called it ulcer lice activity.  I took took triple antibiotics (which you should not do with hep c I expect) and the stomach thing went away.  I actually had so much itching internally and other stomach issues that ihad lot so of tests done.  Nothing found.  Really can't say if it was or was not related.

I do see that vomiting can be associated with hep c during the acute phase and can last for months http://www.emedicinehealth.com/hepatitis_c/page3_em.htm

I'm not a doctor but there is a thing called gastroparesis which makes you nauseous, vomit, and unable to tolerate more than small amounts of food. People can lose lots of weight. A gastro will do an endoscopy and a gastric emptying test to see if your stomach is not moving food through your system fast enough. There is a special diet for this condition. Please get a check up.

This has been an annoying problem for years but has become extreme during the last years. I have been through many many tests  and even sacraficed my gall bladder hoping it was related. It was not. I am at my wits end here. I am going to a Hep specialist but can't get in til January. I am curious because on many pages with hep c info Nausea is listed as a symptom. But no one seems to think the 2 are related in me. I am thinking of treatment but no way I can tolerate the sx with this crap going on. I live on Zofran and Marinol. I eat as well as I can. (Am 30lbs below normal weight). I have tried anti drepressants almost hoping I was just depressed. I didn't think so but grasping at anything that may bring relief. No relief. I am stressed Hell Yes! I have a pretty great life but dealing with feeling so bad, trying to keep a job that I love and need, and trying to find a Dr who can help me are STRESSFUL! Pinning a lot of hope on Dr Bacon (world renoun Hepologist) But am trying to hang on to insurance til then.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It is good to talk about this since I am sure everyone else is tired of hearing about this mess. It feels lonely sometimes. Patti

Nausea and vomiting are not symptoms of HCV.
Go see a gastroenterologist (a doctor that specializes in conditions of the digestive track) to find out what the problem is. It could be serious. Don't ignore your symptoms. They are telling you something is wrong.

Good luck.

you mean prior to tx? i always had some degree of nausea, but no vomiting, and i'm a late stage 3 (prolly 4).

i take Zofran for the nausea now and it helps a bunch. also ginger candy and chunks of ginger help too. just chew on them for a bit.

are you currently treating?
