New Logo for Vertex

I am posting this to add a bit of levity for those of us on treatment, especialIy those on Incivek. (I hope this is okay to post in this forum.)

I was reading someone's journal/blog today and he had a photo of a baboon on it. It made me practically cry with laughter and I almost wet my pants. I think it is the best laugh I have had since I started treatment. I cannot find the link to his photo, but here is a photo I found which expresses the same sentiment. I think I will send it to Vertex and ask if they would like it for their new logo.

(The photo displays what part of me felt like, lol, while on Incivek.)

Incivek was no walk in the park.   It was a walk on the wild side.   Never experience anything like that before.   Tests your true grit and then some.

"Is the interferon they use for ms the same they use for hep c ?"

No

For what conditions are interferons used?

Since interferons enhance the immune system in many ways, they are used for many diseases that involve the immune system. For example:

Interferon alfa-2a (Roferon-A) is FDA-approved to treat hairy cell leukemia, AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma, and chronic myelogenous leukemia.

Interferon alfa-2b is approved for the treatment of hairy cell leukemia, malignant melanoma, condylomata acuminata, AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma, chronic hepatitis C, and chronic hepatitis B.

Ribavirin combined with interferon alfa-2b, interferon alfacon-1 (Infergen), pegylated interferon alfa-2b, or pegylated interferon alpha-2a, all are approved for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C.

Interferon beta-1b (Betaseron) and interferon beta-1a (Avonex) are approved for the treatment of multiple sclerosis.

Interferon alfa-n3 (Alferon-N) is approved for the treatment of genital and perianal warts caused by human papillomavirus (HPV).

Interferon gamma-1B (Actimmune) is approved for the treatment of chronic granulomatous disease, and severe, malignant osteopetrosis.

Are there any differences among the different types of interferons?

Although interferons are very similar they affect the body differently. Therefore, different interferons are used for different conditions. Interferon alphas are used for treating cancers and viral infections; interferon betas are used for treating multiple sclerosis; and interferon gamma is used for treating chronic granulomatous disease.

I cannot claim originality. I have a very bad memory but someone here posted a link to her husbands blog about treating for Hep C (with Incivek). I bookmarked the page and only got a chance to start reading it today. Day 4 had the photo of the baboon butt on it. When I could not get a link to the photo, I went searching for "photo of baboon butt." Several came up but this one was the best. The blog actually has the best photo but this will have to do.

I'm just chuckling at that thought of what you could have used in the search engine and what you might have come across before you found 'the photo.' :)

Lol, vertex would need to hold a lighter to that to get the true effect.  That is pretty perfect.  Thanks for the laugh!
