New (for me) SX

Okay....so here I am near the end of week six. Yesterday I noticed  my lips were beginning to feel raw and more irritated than usual. So I stepped up my use of lip balm ( beeswax). By today both my upper lip and lower are starting to swell. This does not feel like a fever blister outbreak...I think I would recognize that. My tongue also feels a bit swollen and more raw than usual. I am drinking my water. I am using a mouth spray to help with dry mouth at night....and have been using a cold vaporizer as well. I also noticed one small canker sore inside my upper lip.

So, any suggestions?

Meds: Incivek at 6:30, 2:30, 10:30 -ribavarin at 6:30 and2:30 - all with some sort of meal. Regular small dinner meal around 7 pm.

So I just asked him about it, and he told me that he had the swelling the day after the IFN injection, for a few days.  Happened twice, then never again.  He was convinced it was the IFN and not the INC.  Weird...

Hmmmm.... It's in the center of my lip almost as though I have had those pouty lip injections. Don't think it's the interferon ..... Although not ruling it out. It's back again tonight.
On Another note, I dug out my Neti pot tonight and rinsed out my nasal passages. For now, nose feels better. That's my interferon bugaboo I think, runny nose, nasal irritation, bleeding when I blow my nose, and lots of sneezing.

Will see what lip is like in am.

I am glad to hear that your hubby had it too and that it will pass. APpointment is on Friday so I will definitely take it up with the doctor. Believe it or not, it is better this afternoon. I have been sipping water and ginger ale and ice all day.  I just love Wednesdays... (keeping that perspective word at the forefront) - it's as though I start to rise from the proverbial ashes.
@michaell will check into the strap on Amazon. Thanks.

Husband had this for just a few days right around week 6.   He did not treat, or call doctor, even though I was concerned.   Passed in 3 or 4 days.  Has not had terribly dry mouth. though.  If you think it's caused by dry mouth at night, maybe a jock strap/chin guard will do the trick ;)  I think you have a doctor appt. tomorrow, yes?  Definitely worth a discussion.  If it really swells up, though, I wouldn't wait.

What kind of chin guard was it? I'm up for anything at this point. Reminds me of the post from the fellow who wrote about making something from a jock strap....hilarious post. Can still laugh about it!

I also got the inside mouth sores. At night with dry mouth I would wake up and found my upper lip bonded to my teeth. The sores split open and bonded to my teeth.Very painful to separate.I asked my dr,dentist,my  and no one had a fix or prevention.I started to rub candle wax on my teeth. This lasted for 8 hours.I read a post of a chin guard to keep your mouth closed and prevent furthering dry mouth.I got one on amazon, great quality and awkward to use.It worked. My mouth stayed closed at night.Got 8 hours of sleep. As a back up I bought 2 teeth guards to keep the open sores from bonding to my teeth.Haven't used them yet.

If I were you I would call my doc (GI or Hepatologist, not your PCP) this am and get an appointment to see him/her today. Be sure to tell whomever you speak with that you are on Incivek and Hep C meds and describe your side effects. Your symptoms may be serious and you may need treatment from your doc ASAP.

"Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
*pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating; or
*severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling."

"Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Incivek:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); change in the amount of urine produced; dark, tarry, or bloody stools; dizziness; fast or irregular heartbeat; feeling cold, especially in the hands or feet; fever, chills, or sore throat; joint pain (especially in the big toe); mouth sores or ulcers; pale skin; rash (with or without itching); red or irritated eyes; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe or prolonged nausea or vomiting; shortness of breath; swelling of the face; unusual tiredness or weakness; yellowing of the skin or eyes."
