Night sweats again!

I first experienced DRENCHING night sweats when I was first diagnosed with Hep C, back in my days when I think I was acute...I've had run-of-the-mill, garden variety night sweats here & there, the kind you get from nightmares...but the last month or so I've had a mini-relapse of them.  Oddly, each run of the sweats came immediately following a bout with a flu/infection.  Yet I didn't have the sweats DURING the sickness, but right after I started getting better!  Has anyone else noticed this?  What I'm wondering is, my PCP advised me against treating, & told me of the unpleasantness of the Ribavirin in particular.  When I mentioned to him about Teleprevir (he hadn't heard of it), he told me that all the drugs ending in -vir serve to trick your immune system into thinking you have the flu, so it goes into overdrive combating what is actually Hep C.  Does having the REAL flu do something similar?  (would it be advisable to come down with the flu very often then?  just kidding on that one).

I am going to throw my pillows away if the sweats ever stop.  I believe they are result of little fevers and the interferon could keep that going for a little while.

I'm at week 22 today and my night sweats have persisted.  I have to flip my soaked pillow several times each night sometimes.  It is normal.

-vir just refers to a viricide as far as I know.  Interferon induces extra production of killer t-cells, the same thing that naturally happens when the body's own interferon takes a stand against an invading virus.  Symptoms are the same.

I had night sweats when I was on a full dose of Lexapro.  They stopped when I dropped back down to a half dose.  I am having those horrendous night sweats now (and waking up because I get cold from being soaked) from recently going off ribivirin and boceprevir, an experimental, really good protease inhibitor.  If I take Tylenol at bedtime, they are greatly reduced.

Ribivirin cannot hold a candle to the side effects of interferon.  Ribivirin mostly causes low hemoglobin (and there are other meds that can reverse that), rash and maybe a cough.  The interferon can kick your butt but it's also the most effective drug at kicking the virus's butt.

You may want to ask you PCP for a referral to a more specialised doctor, like a hepatologist or a gastroenterologist with experience treating hepatitis.
