Pegasys and Fever

Did first injection 4 days ago. I have fever and chills. Tylenol helps some, but the fever keeps coming back. Can anyone relate their experience with  fever and Pegasys? Like, does the fever subside to maybe just a couple of days after 2 or 3 weeks. Looking for some relief here...

hope everything goes well for you. be sure to drink lots of fluids. i neglected to during tx. but gatorade is helpful to keep hydrated and electrolyte balance.  i recently stopped tx. but had to go to ER, i have been on antibiotics and apparently had not been drinking enough for both tx drugs and antibiotic, had the worst frontal headache ever for 4 days.  the ER does not know about the drugs we take, but they treat prophilactically - and hydrated, anti-anx., and a drug for migranes.  (by the way they kept asking me if i had a history of migranes, long time ago, but never for treatment, its prob. the chemo i kept telling them)

when i left there i felt more normal than i had in almost 6 mths of tx.

Thanx. Temp this morning was 98.8 after taking two tylonyl. Will try the Motrin. Is that any different from generic ibuprofen?

Also, does the fact that the fever is there correlate to the meds eliminating the virus? IOW, more fever = more detroyed virus?

Everyone is different.  I personally would choose motrin over generic.  Generic doesn't work for me.  Same ingredients but just didn't work for me.

In the beginning of treatment I had to take motrin everyday and my body became immuned to it to where it wouldn't work for me anymore.  (for the pain that is)

I had frequent low grade fevers for most of my 48 weeks of tx. I just took some Advil and it would bring me back to a normal temperature.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Welcome to the club of interferon.  Everyone is different with their sx.
Some worse then others.  I went through 103.6 fevers everyday for about a week.
It'll most likely pass.  I don't know about you ,but tylenol never did anything for me.  Motrin was my life saver.  Lots of rest and plenty of fluids.  Fluids are very important for the body aches as well.

I will be taking my 7th shot tomorrow.  I still suffer some, but I make sure I get plenty of rest and keep stress as far away as possible.
On occasion I still get fevers, but they are low grade.  You need to remember your body has some serious meds being forced upon it.  It's fighting all the poison.

All I can say is you're in for a ride.  Become one with it to get through it.
Stay positive as much as you can.  I know it's hard when you feel so lousy.
I'd say for the first couple of weeks take motrin to get though this, but remember
you will need to try to go with out, as motrin and tylenol aren't good to the liver.  Keep in contact with your Dr. about liver friendly meds to help you with your sx.

so you think dizzy, loss of balance might be a symptom of hep?  how many weeks will you be treating?

good luck

i didn't get full on fever but felt a frequent warmth and headachey quite often took tylenol or ibuprofen (initially i preferred ibu), rather regular at first 3x day don't wait for the symptoms. drink lots of water. times i felt that low-grade fever in  my body especially through my forehead cold or wet washcloth helps to cool the fever.  eventually the headaches got to be fewer and took as i needed.

hope you feel better already.

I forgot to add that all my fevers started in the afternoon, like noon or 2-3:00. I have no idea if the fever meant anything about virus killing but I did have SVR.

Thanx. Actually, this is my second try at tx.  I tried PegIntron in 2002 and only lasted 3 weeks. I could barely get out of bed to go to the BR. Fever ranged between 100 - 102 the ENTIRE time. Shakes and chills were unbelievable. Neither tylenol or ibuprophen had any effect.

Sofar, Pegasys has been a lot easier. This only my 5th day, but I haave been able to move around the house a bit and walk outside. And I do get relief using either tylenol or ibuprophen. Also, I was taking 1200mg riba before and only 1000mg now.

Why did I try again? Fatigue, dizziness, loss of balance - all getting worse. Could the HCV be affecting my brain? And guess what - dizziness and loss of balance is not occurring now ...

I always ran a fever after my first shot, guaranteed, but can't really remember other than that.  I think it wasn't unusual for me to intermittently run a fever now and then while on treatment.  The best thing if you're concerned is to call your doctor, in addition to coming here, of course!  :)  Hope you feel better!
