I have chronic 27 years... I have known about it that long. I am thin and I get most of the sides (no suicide/ depression). Some are getting better, some annoy me...
Doctors aren't always very helpful... unless you have the list of questions. We don't have a hepatologist in Vegas so my GI hasn't been very informative... we go to Los Angeles now.
Are your kids small? if so, you will want to make sure your hubby (and fam) understands what your going to go thru....
Jim has a point... when did you get it? I have had docs tell me different things like I will live till I am 80 and another told me to get treated before it gets worse... you just have to make the decision for you...
tlg: I feel really uneducated in.
----------------
Educate yourself before you decide to treat now or wait. Heed "HCA's" advice, above, especially if you're chronic -- were infected over 6-12 months ago.
Or perhaps you're an acute -- infected recently. If acute, then your chances of being cured are much better but the treatment is different. Has your doc explained any of this to you?
And if you really feel your doc is a "quack", why on earth would you treat or even listen to him? Alternatively, he may indeed know what he's talking about and your aches and pains may indeed be unrelated. Again, educate yourself. Is your doc a liver specialist (hepatologist)? He should be because they know more about this disease and its treatments.
Lastly, you say " I know they are I didn't have the aches and pains before I knew I hep c.". Are you saying you got the aches and pains after hearing you had HCV or before. If it's after simply hearing about it, then they could be psychosomatic.

I can't wait to get started on Dec 5th. But I feel my Doctor is a quack he said my aches and pains are not from Hep C and I need to talk to my Internal Medicine doctor. I know they are I didn't have the aches and pains before I knew I hep c. Crazy.Congradulations on making it to the 20th week of treatment has it been hard are the side effects hard on you?
God Bless,
Tanis
I got mine from a needle stick at the VA hospital...
My overall Ishkak (sp?) score was a 3 .... I started treatment because about 1 yr ago my RA (rheumatoid arthritis) test came back positive and I too ached all over, and I have skin issues etc...(almost like the filter is clogged and all the toxins are coming out other places. I thought I better get rid of the HCV because they blame it for all that goes wrong with you - even skin cancers..... I am in my 20th week of treatment... almost over the hump. I ache more now than ever, we all hope its worth the trip.
Bill - that is a great site... thank you
Pardon me; ‘biopsy results’ from the right hand column would be more appropriate for your question:

Bill
Tig,
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Take a peek at the following site; it’s a good primer on HCV:
http://janis7hepc.com/
From the home page, you can click on any category you like in the right-hand column. For instance the title ‘stage/liver disease’ should answer your questions about stage and grade.
Good luck, and welcome—
Bill
no the didn't give me an overall score what was yours? I'm starting treatment on Dec 5th I ache all over, crabby, tired, exhausted busy parent of 4 children. and work full-time as an LPN but my specialty is Gericatrics not Hep C I feel really uneducated in. I obtained it from a needle stick.
Stage 0 means no liver damage.
Grade 2 means some inflammation at present.
Why hasn't your doctor explained this?
You don't have to worry-you will need to take anti-viral medication though.
The best time will be in about two years when a new treatment regime will be available.
You will be fine until then.
Don't drink alcohol.
Hi tlg...
I have the same as you..... 1a, grade 2 stage 0
grade 2 is the inflammation of the portal vein... and has a score from 1-4
stage 0 means you have no liver damage - it has a 1-4 score too... 4 being cirrhosis
did you get an overall score too?
