Prominent Left Lobe of Liver

I recently found out I have a prominent left liver lobe. I have no idea what this means and what problems, if any, this could cause.

My cardiologist was having a MRA of my chest done thanks to a screw up in a previous CT that said I had thyroid tissue on my heart--really I just had the liver thing (no tissue on the heart). The cardiologist said he has no idea what it means and to talk to my regular doctor to see if I need to see a liver specialist-which I plan on seeing whether or not he thinks I should or not.

I have fibromyalgia, IBS, bradytachycardia, GERD, migraines/headaches, anxiety, pelvic floor dysfunction, etc.

I get very sharp pains in my chest. Its low between my breasts and mostly between them and under my left one. I've been getting it more and more often. When I lay on my sides and kinda squish my chest it happens and its like something is crushing inside.

A few months ago I had a random weak positive Actin Smooth Muscle test. I have a history of high cholesterol and was on Pravachol till my new doctor took me off cause it can cause muscle pains and I have fibro!! and my cholesterol had come down a lot. My liver tests have been good too.

I'm on Synthroid, Wellbutrin SR, Elavil, Topamax, Aciphex, Toprol XL. I think thats it.

Does anyone know what it means to have a Prominent left lobe of the liver? What problems it could cause and what could cause it? Should I see my Gastroenterologist or go directly to a certain kind of liver doctor? Are there any blood tests I should have done?

Thanks you for your Help!!

Hi AMB....Just saw your post and wanted to make a comment..A lot of DRS are prescribing Anti-Seizure drugs for pain.I didn't see seizures as a symptom of yours...I was given those drugs for a short time and refused to take them. Bad sides, especially with liver disease. Talk to whom ever TX'd you and try something different....Be very careful getting off of them,,,can cause a seizure...Serious stuff.

Hi Amb. Sorry you're having such a tough time.  A prominent left liver could mean a number of things (or nothing), and your GI doc is the only doc who can further assess this finding and start ruling things out if he thinks it's significant. The pain could be related to an enlarged liver, but your liver might not be enlarged, and so the pain could be totally unrelated.  It's just impossible to tell right now.  It sounds like you might be seeing several doctors.  I think it's going to be real important for you that all of them are well-apprised of what's going on with your various problems.  The GI doc will know what tests need to be done on you.  If you are worried that you might have hepatitis, ask him about this.  Ask him about testing.  Best of luck to you.
